oUsed to lift heavy weights with least effort.
Definition
oIt takes an input force (push or a pull) and
changes its magnitude and/or direction into
an output force against a load
oConsist of Load, Effort, Rigid Bar & Fulcrum
Types of Lever
oDepending on the position of Load, Effort &
Fulcrum Lever classified as
1. First Class Lever
2. Second class Lever
3. Third class Lever
First Class Lever and application
oFulcrum placed between load and the effort.
oMost common lever configuration.
oThe in a First Class Lever effort
is in one direction, and the load
moves in opposite direction.
Second class Lever and application
oLoad placed between the fulcrum and effort.
oIn this type of lever, the movement
of the load is in same direction of effort.
Third class Lever and application
oEffort placed between the load and fulcrum.
oThe effort always travels a shorter
distance and must be greater than the load.
oEffort and load are in the same direction.
