If a victim to be rescued wears a FBH, he
must keep himself moving as much as he
can while suspended to avoid restricting
circulation of blood.
The worker may hold or grab onto a
nearby structure to release him from the
force exerted b the straps of the harness

DEMOLITIO
N
SAFETY
OSHS Rule 1417: Demolition
 All
demolition operations of a building or other structure over
6m high shall be under supervision of a competent person.

 Noperson except the workers who are directly engaged in the

demolition shall enter a demolition area to within a distance
equal to 1 ½ times the height of structure being demolished.

 Where the abovementioned distance is not possible, the

structure shall be fenced around and no unauthorized person
shall be allowed within the fenced area.
DEMOLITIO
N WARNING
SAFETY SIGNS
On every demolition work
danger signs shall be posted
around the structure and all doors
and opening giving access to the
structure shall be kept barricaded
and guarded
DEMOLITIO
N PRELIMINAR
SAFETY Y
Survey of the site vicinity for potential
danger to the public.

If possible, entrances to the site be

located away from heavy traffic areas.

Install necessary walkway (footpath

with overhead shelter) with adequate
lighting.
DEMOLITIO
N PRELIMINAR
SAFETY Y
To prevent falling hazards from
high levels of buildings close to
public areas, install:
a. external scaffolding along the
periphery of the building
b. peripheral overhead cantilever
shelter
c. Safety netting
DEMOLITIO
N PRELIMINAR
SAFETY Y
All existing gas, electrical or other
services likely to endanger a
worker shall have been shut off or
disconnected.

Prior to demolition, all glass shall

be removed from windows and
other locations
DEMOLITIO
N PRELIMINAR
SAFETY Y
Shoring or other necessary
measures shall be taken to
prevent the accidental collapse of
any part of the building or
structure being demolished or
any adjacent building or structure
endangering the workers.
DEMOLITIO
N DEMOLITION
SAFETY PROCESS
Demolition shall proceed
systematically, storey by storey,
in a descending order and the
work on the upper floors shall be
completely over before removing
any of the supporting members
of the structure on the lower
floor.
DEMOLITIO
N DEMOLITION
SAFETY PROCESS
 Where practical, avoid
working directly from parts of
the structure to be
demolished.
 Preferably, all demolition
works be carried out on the
same level. Never work below
the level where the demolition
work is in progress.
DEMOLITIO
N DEMOLITION
SAFETY PROCESS
No building or any part of the
structure shall be overloaded
with debris or materials to render
it unsafe and hazardous to
persons working.
DEMOLITIO
N DEMOLITION
SAFETY PROCESS
Adequate precautions shall be
taken to avoid danger from any
twisting, springing or collapse of
any steel or ironwork cut or
released.
DEMOLITIO
N DEMOLITION
SAFETY PROCESS
 Debris falling from the hacking/drilling should
be confined to the interior of the building.

 Spraying of water on debris, prevent air

pollution and also avoid fire hazards.

 Debris should not be allowed to build up

against walls or on floors. Overloading may
cause the structure to collapse resulting in
accident.

 Debris should either be hoisted down in

buckets or by using proper rubbish chute and
must never be thrown from the top.
DEMOLITIO
N DEMOLITION
SAFETY PROCESS
Adequate precautions shall be
taken to avoid danger from any
twisting, springing or collapse of
any steel or ironwork cut or
released.
DEMOLITIO
N DEMOLITION
SAFETY PROCESS
A truss, girder or other structural
member shall not be
disconnected until it has been:
a. Relieved of all loads other
than its weight,
b. Provided with temporary
supports
DEMOLITIO
N DEMOLITION
SAFETY PROCESS
Stairs and stair railings,
passageways and ladders shall be
demolished last.

When demolition is suspended or

discontinued, all access to the
remaining part of the building
shall be fenced or barricaded.
DEMOLITIO
N DEMOLITION
SAFETY WORKFORCE
Daily briefing by the person who is
overall in-charge must be conducted.
The briefing shall include information
on:
 Scope and distribution of works for
the day.
 Locations of work to be carried out.
 Areas to avoid.
 Safety measures to take.
 Equipment to use.
DEMOLITIO
N DEMOLITION
SAFETY WORKFORCE
The demolition work must be
supervised and monitored closely
by experience supervisors or
engineers.

Demolition workers must have the

experience or have undergone
training and be competent
enough to carry out the works.
DEMOLITIO

SAFETY WORKFORCE
 All workers must also be
furnished with the necessary
personal protective equipment
such as; Safety Helmets, Safety
Shoes, Safety Belts/harness,
Gloves, Masks, Ear Plugs/Muffs,
