1. INTRODUCTION
❖A brake is a mechanical device that inhibits motion by slowing
down a body or by slowing it.
❖ Brakes retard the motion of a body creating friction between two
working surfaces and convert the kinetic energy of the moving body
into heat.
❖Sometimes brake failure may occur when the brake lining is cut-off.
❖Brakes are generally applied to rotating axles or wheels, but also
take other forms such as the surface of a moving fluid.
❖Some vehicles use a combination of braking mechanisms.
❖The aim of this work is to design a braking system with indicator
with an auxiliary braking system.

Changes in Braking Systems over the Years:-
❖ The evolution of brakes has been impressive, and has included
many new technologies throughout the years.
❖ In all new developments to the brake system, the number one
priority is to improve auto safety and efficiency.
❖ The types of braking systems that have been used over the years
include:
1. Wooden Block Brake:- Used on vehicles with steel-rimmed
wheels, including horse-drawn vehicles and steam-driven
automobiles.
2. Mechanical Drum Brake:- Anchoring a cable-wrapped drum
to the vehicles is used to stop momentum.

5
3. Hydraulic Brakes:- Fluids are used to transfer force to the brake
shoe when a pedal was pressed.
4. Disc Brakes:- Systemintegrates both disc andhydraulic
functions.
5. Anti-Lock Brakes:- Created to assist previous braking systems
to prevent the brakes from locking up while in use.

6
PROBLEM STATEMENT
❖Our problem is that we don’t have brake failure indication system in
automobile, so to overcome the brake failure we have to
1.To design an Automobile Brake Failure Indicator with Auxiliary
Braking System for a drum brake system and test it.
2.To modify mechanism of car system to make it more safe.
3.To make effective braking system.
4.Increase safety at while driving vehicles.
5.Conceptual design for future electric vehicles.

7
OBJECTIVE OF THE PROJECT
❖To design an Automobile Brake Failure Indicator for a drum brake
system.

❖To create a 3D model for the same.

❖To setup the system.

❖To test and observe the working of the system.

AUTHOR YEAR TITLE DESCRIPTION
G.Venkata 2018 Automobile It is the most effective and
siva, Dr Brake Failure the simplest methodology
B.Chandra Indicator used to reduce the rate of
Mohan accident due to brake
Reddy failure. The main
advantage of the system is
Prof. Pandit 2016 Automatic Brake Failure that it is compact in size,
Biradar, Detection with and the installation cost is
Jitendra Auxilary Braking very less.
Baravkar System Automatic break failure
indicator and auxiliary

AUTHOR YEAR TITLE DESCRIPTION
Abhishek 2016 Automatic Brake Fail Indicator The condition of brakes is
Chaudhary, regularly monitored by the brake
Kapil Jariya, failure indicator circuit. The brake
Mohit Kumar failure condition is sensed by the
Sharma sensors attached to the circuit
through monitoring the brake
switch. So, when the brake is
applied it shows the condition of
brake every time.
Dr. N. 2016 Automatic Brake Failure The braking system of a car is
Venkata Indicator and Over Heating undoubtedly one of its more
Chalapathi, Alarm important features. Brake failure
Dr. V. occurs only because of worn out of
Mallikarjuna brake shoe and cut in liner. The
aim of this work is to create a
better braking system with
indicator.
K. Mohan, 2017 Accidents Avoiding System There is an increase in number of
G. Indicator Due To Brake Failure deaths and accidents is due to brake
Pugazhendhi failure. The aim of our paper is to
diagnose faulty braking system and
application of an auxiliary
secondary braking system in case of
M brake failures.

Radhakishan 2017 Automatic Brake Failure One of the main reason is brake
Maske, Satesh Indicator and Braking failure, it caused to due to very poor
Surwase, System maintenance as well as product defect.
Balbhim Automatic brake failure indicator and

3. METHODOLOGY
❖ Brake retard the motion of a body creating friction between two
working surfaces.
❖ It converts kinetic energy of body into heat energy.

Causes of Brake Failure:-

❖ Owner Neglect
❖ Overheating Brake Pads
❖ Damaged Rotor Discs
❖ Leaking Hydraulic Fluid
❖ Driving Through Mud or Water
❖ Loss of Hydraulic Brake Fluid Pressure
❖ Overloading Your Automobile

Working

❖Case I: When the brake drum fails or the cable or the link join get
broken then the lever of drum brake goes to rear side and it pushes
the limit switch as shown in image highlighted in red.
❖Case II: When the limit switch get pressed in brake fail condition,
limit switch activates the solenoid which is connected to the disc
brake.
❖Case III: Once the disc is locked, the tyre shaft also gets locked &
the emergency brake get applied to the system.

4. Working of GPS system to ensure safety of
surrounding vehicles

 By using this GPS technology we can give the information of

the vehicles whose brakes are fail to its surrounding vehicles for
more safety.
 Working procedure:
1. Limit switch is used to power on the circuit.
2. The circuit will have a micro controller.
3. The controller will have the GPS module connected to it which
will send the current GPS location of the vehicle to the
controller.
4. The controller will then send the GPS coordinates to a central
server through internet module.
5. The controller will also operate LED signalling, buzzer or other
indication.
16
17
5. CONCLUSION
❖There are many aims of this project describe as:-

1. To indicate the proper working condition of braking system

2. To prevent accidents by the failure of braking system

3. To gives the audio visual indication when there is a

mistake in braking system.
