Definition

A song is a composition of lyrics, short


poem that is set to music and meant to
be sung.

Communicative Purpose

To entertain the listeners and also as media to


express feelings. Songs also teach the listeners
moral values that are hidden in the lyrics .

● Verse is the main part of a song that tells a story

● Refrain/Chorus is a part of song that is repeated. The rhythm of


this part is distinct from the verse.

● Coda is a line that closes a song

POETRY

Poetry is derived from ancient Greek word (poioe) which means “ I create”.

Poetry is considered a literary art form. In poetry, special focus and attention is
given to express feelings and ideas by using unique style.

Poetry artistically renders words in such a way as to evoke intense emotions.


Poetry Technique
● Simile is used to compare two unlike things ‘like’ or ‘as’
e.g :
- she is as sweet as sugar

● Methapor is used to compare two things without using ‘like’ or ‘as’


e.g :
- Edo is such a Fox

● Personification is used to give human qualities to inanimate objects


e.g :
- The wind dancwd with the waves.

● Hyperbole is used to exaggerate things beyond limit


e.g :
- My mummy has a diamond ring as big as a mountain
Poetry Technique
● Alliteration is when at the beginning of the words, there is a repetition of consonants
e.g :
- Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers

● Onomatopoeia is words that sounds like the name of the word


e.g :
- She splashed the water on me

● Rhyme is word that sound alike either at the end of the lines or in the middle of the
line
e.g :
They all ran after the farmer’s wife, who cut off their tails with a carving knife
