customers.
• to keep up with the organizational goal and to stay
ahead in the competition.

Types of Supply Chain
1) Raw supply chain
2) Ripe supply chain

•  This type of supply chain exist in the situations

where organizations are satisfied with what they
have achieved and whatever needs to be
achieved.
• Ripe supply chains have well- organized activities
& improved relationship with distributors &
suppliers.
• However, a small portion of information flows
through these types of supply chains.
3) Internal supply chain
4) External supply chain
5) Self- monitored supply
chain
• In this type of supply chain, the manufacturing
company becomes the center, and takes the lead
in bringing all the partners and suppliers in its
supply chain.
• Thus, self-monitored supply chains are company-
centric and not customer-centric.
6) Outsourced supply chain

• Under these supply chains,

outsourced supply chains which
are typically in the form
if 3PL logistics partners, take
care of all the aspects of the
supply chain outbound logistics,
inbound logistics, relationships,
etc.
7) Production - oriented
supply chain
• This type of supply chains has a single objective-
to make maximum utilization of capacity and labor.
• These supply chains consider production as the
utmost important function, and all the other
activities lag behind.
8) Financial – oriented supply
chain
• Also known as cash-to-cash
cycle chains, these chains aim
to provide the organization
with a negative working
capital.
• This releases funds for the
organization which would
otherwise be blocked in
inventory and accounts
receivables.
9) Market – oriented supply chain

• They are typical built-to-order type supply chains which

are activated when the customer places an order.
• They are also known as customer supply chain
• Amazon is an example of a market-oriented company. As
it has grown and developed, it has consistently added
processes and features that clearly address concerns
and desires expressed by consumers.
• Coca-Cola
• Coca-Cola is another company that is famous for its
market orientation. Considerable research goes into
identifying new flavors that consumers will actually like,
such as wild strawberry and lime.
