CAUSE AND EFFECT
ZERO CONDITIONAL
The zero Conditional is a structure used for talking about:
• General Truths.
• Scientific Facts.
• Things which always happened under certain conditions.
ZERO CONDITIONAL

General Truths:
If/When condition result
If it rains, we get wet.
When you visit your friend, you take bread.

Scientific Facts:
If/When condition result
If the water boils, is not cold
When you don’t apply sunscreen, you get your skin burn.
ZERO CONDITIONAL
Things that always happen under certain Conditions:

If/When condition result

If I study, I get good marks


When I study I get good marks.
ZERO CONDITIONAL
CAUSE/CONDITION EFFECT/RESULT

If clause: Main clause:

PRESENT PRESENT
SIMPLE SIMPLE or
IMPERATIVE
If I drive fast I have an accident.
If you go to the bakery You need to take money.

If you drink too much water You have the hiccup

If you don’t go to the bakery You run out of food.

If you don’t practice soccer You are a bad player.


THE FIRST CONDITIONAL

 It refers to situations that we consider highly probable.

 Situations if the condition is met, a certain result is likely to occur.

 In some way, under certain conditions we make predictions, this is


why we use FUTURE to indicate these predictions.
IF +CONDITION (PRESENT SIMPLE) RESULT (FUTURE WILL –WON’T)

If it rains today, I won’t go out to play soccer

If I eat Ice-cream, I will get sick

If I mix eggs flour and milk, I will get cake

THE SECOND CONDITIONAL
• USES:
• We use Conditionals type 2 to speak about impossible
situations in our reality.
• Imaginary conditions or scenarios.
• Unlikely hypothetical situations .
