Content

 Introduction
 Renewable energy source
1. biomass
2. hydropower
3. geothermal
4.wind energy
5. solar energy
6. ocean energy
 Conclusion
Introduction

 Reduce dependence on fossil fuel and harmful emission affecting health and environment
 Includes biomass, geothermal and solar energy etc that converted into useful energy
 Contribute to the government’s strategy to attain 60% sell-sufficiency for total primary
energy
 Geothermal, hydro and biomass provide combine 42% share
 Wind, solar and micro-hydro resources are getting wide scale use for electrification
RENEWABLE ENERGY SOURCE

 Biomass
 Hydropower
 Geothermal
 Wind Energy
 Solar Energy
 Ocean Energy
BIOMASS

 Non-fossilized, biodegradable organic materials

 Varies with use of biogas, baggage, rice hull, coconut husks e.t.c
 Landfill waste is another source
 Several waste-to-energy project that use methane gas generate and capture from landfills
were approved by Board of Investment
HYDROPOWER

 Mostly derive from potential energy of dammed water

 Generate electricity
 Classified based on their capacity
 Micro-hydro - 1 to 100 kW
 Mini-hydro - 101 kW to 10MW
 Large-hydro – more than 10MW
GEOTHERMAL

 Derived from thermal energy

 Usually occurring in deep reservoirs of hot fluids within the earth’s crust
 Consider a minerals resources
 Four elements in geothermal system
 Heat source – magma comes close to earth surface in volcanic area
 Permeable underground reservoir rock – con hold and store water
 Solid cap rock – maintain pressure and don’t allow heat, water to escape
 Water – serves as medium for heat carrying
WIND ENERGY

 Derive from wind

 Converted into electrical and mechanical energy
 Blades connected t a drive shaft turns an electric generate to produce electricity
 Blades rotated by wind’s kinetic energy
 Examples : windmills, today’s wind machines
SOLAR ENERGY

 Derived from solar radiation

 Converted into useful electrical and thermal energy
 Classified into two categories
 Photovoltaic (PV)
 Concentrating Solar Power (CSP) system
 PV system convert solar into electrical energy
OCEAN ENERGY

 Derived from ocean or tidal current and wave energy

 Converted into electrical or mechanical energy
CONCLUSION

 Reduce dependence on fossil fuel

 Generate mechanical and electrical energy
 Eco-friendly
