ORIGIN
 Basketball is a team
sport that was invented
by James Naismith in
1891 at the
international YMCA
Training school in
Springfield,
Massachusetts.
James Naismith is
a Canadian
Physical Educator
Instructor. And he
established the
game fairly
quickly and grew
very popular in the
20th century.
RULES AND REGULATION
The game
- Basketball game is played by 2 teams of 5 players each.
- The aim of each team is to score in the opponents' basket and to prevent the other
team from scoring. The game is controlled by the officials, table officials and a
commissioner, if present.
Basket: opponents'/own
- The basket that is attacked by a team is the opponents' basket and the basket
which is defended by a team is its own basket. .
Winner of a game
- The team that has scored the greater number of game points at the end of playing
time shall be the winner
PLAYING COURT

PLAYING COURT MUST BE:

a) A playing court must be flat, hard surface free


from obstruction.
b) Playing court is with the dimension of 28 meters
in length and 15 meters in width.
BACKCOURT AND FRONT COURT

 Backcourt is consisting of its  Frontcourt consists of


own basket opponent’s court
WHAT SHOULD BE THE LINES IN A
PLAYING COURT?

 Lines shall be of the same color and drawn in


white or other contrasting colors.

 And in lines it should have 5 cm. in width


and clearly visible.
DIFFERENT LINES IN PLAYING COURT

 Boundary lines,
 End lines,
 Side lines,
 Free throw lines,
 3 point line,
 Center line.
LINES:

 Boundary Line is consisting of end lines and side lines. These


lines are not part of the playing court.
 End Lines are the lines at the base line of the court beneath the
post of basket.
 Side Lines is in the side of court that is lengthy than the end lines.
 Free Throw Lines shall be drawn parallel to each end line. It
shall have its furthest edge 5.80 m from the inner edge of the end
line and shall be 3.60 m long. Its mid-point shall lie on the
imaginary line joining the mid-point of the 2 end lines.
LINES:

 3 Point Line is the farthest place in the act of shooting, yet they
can get highest score in basketball. 3 point lines has An arc of
radius 6.75 m measured from the point on the floor beneath the
exact center of the opponents' basket to the outer edge of the arc.
The distance of the point on the floor from the inner edge of the
mid-point of the end line is 1.575 m. The arc is joined to the
parallel lines.
 Center Line is also called midcourt line, the eight second
line.
VIOLATIONS IN BASKETBALL:

 Travelling,
 Double dribble,
 Carrying the ball,
 3 seconds,
 5 seconds,
 8 seconds,
 24 shot clock violation,
 Ball returned to the backcourt; and
 Deliberate football.
WHAT DO YOU MEAN BY VIOLATIONS?

 Violations is an infraction of the rules.


 Therefore when a players made a violation
the ball will be awarded to the opposing
team.
VIOLATION:
 Travelling is the illegal movements of one foot or both
feet beyond the limit steps.
 Double dribble is the illegal dribble in basketball where
in the player simultaneously dribbling with his or her
both hands.
 Carrying the Ball is also an illegal dribble which the
player stay the ball in his palm with a second and tend to
dribble it again.
VIOLATION:
 3 Seconds Violation this will happen if the players
remain in the restricted area while they get the live ball.
 5 Seconds Violation this will happen when a player
didn’t pass the ball during inbound.
 8 Seconds Violation is happen when the player did not
go the ball to the opponent’s court within 8 seconds.
VIOLATION:
 24 Shot Clock Violation happen when a team didn’t
shoot the ball to the opponent’s court within 24 seconds
violation or they shoot the ball but in the end of 24
seconds.
 Ball-returned to the Backcourt is happen when the live
ball gets back to the backcourt.
 Deliberate Football is a violation wherein the player
touches the ball with his foot
FOULS IN BASKETBALL:

 Blocking Foul,
 Offensive Foul,
 Pushing Foul,
 Technical Foul,
 Disqualifying Foul,
 Double Foul; and
 Unsportsmanlike Foul.
WHAT DO YOU MEAN BY FOUL?

 A Foul is an infraction of the rules concerning


illegal personal contact with an opponent and or
an unsportsmanlike behavior.
TYPES OF FOULS:
 Blocking foul is illegal personal contact which impedes
the progress of opponent player with or without the ball.
 Offensive foul is called when an offensive player did
illegal contact with his opponent team.
 Pushing foul is illegal personal contact with any part of
the body where a player forcibly moves or attempt to
move an opponent with or without the ball
TYPES OF FOULS:
 Disqualifying Foul happens when a player was made
unpleasant doings that is very against the rules.
 Double Foul is a situation of which 2 opponents commit
personal foul to each other at proximately the same time.
 Technical Foul is a player a non-contact foul but a
behavioral nature such as; disregarding warnings given
by officials, disrespectful dealing with the officials,
commissioners the table officials or the team bench
personnel.
TYPES OF FOULS:
 Unsportsmanlike Foul is unnecessary contact caused
by the defensive player in order to stop the offensive
team in transition.
