Tyer Wind Concept
Modelled after studying the motion of the humming bird

Inspired by conventional wind turbines as new

conceptual turbine designs
• Composed of five separate wing structures, the roof would convert the
linear motion into radial motion as each wing pivots on an axis.
• These pivot axes are located at the base of each wing and also anchor the
Wings to ground.
• A tensile structural system would provide flexibility while also supporting
a canvas membrane.
• The radial symmetry of the design would also respond to wind from any
direction.
• In this sense it works similarly to the vertical axis design of the ice wind
turbine.
Feathers
Modelled after studying the bird’s wings

It explains how birds’ wings and feathers form a perfect

airfoil. Each feather is controlled by its own muscles around
the follicle. So a bird can continuously adjust its feathers in
flight to account for variations in wind, temperature, thermals,
etc.

Inspired by feathers, a façade is created with a series of fins. These fins are
hinged to a vertical frame and the inclined side of the fin is allowed to rotate
at an angle of 180 ̊. The fin façade is designed at the east and the west
façades. At the East façade, the fins are rotated to adjust accordingly, where
as at the west façade the fins can be closed and slits can be opened up for
ventilation.
