BRIEF HISTORY OF THE LIBRARY

Nabinchandra College Central Library was started


along with the establishment of the College in 1969
in order to cater to the academic needs of the
faculty, students, and non-teaching staff. Since then,
the College Central Library has gone from strength to
live-up to the expectations of its immediate clientele.
The NC.College Central Library is one of the best
College Libraries regarding collection as well as
providing services to the users of this urban area.
LOCATION OF THE LIBRARY

• The Central library of NC College,


Badarpur is located in the First Floor
of the Old Academic Building (103)
• Total Floor area of the Central Library
is about 2000 sq.ft.
– Floor area of the Library: 1400 sq.ft.
– Floor area of the Reading Room: 600
sq.ft.

• Understand the research, teaching, and learning needs of its users.


• Acquisition and conservation of all significant printed and non-
print materials.
• Rendering of bibliographical and documents services of current
and retrospective material, both general and specialized.
• Provide access to and promote the discovery and use of local and
external information resources
• Create hospitable physical and virtual environments for study,
teaching, and research
• Acting as a referral centre purveying full and accurate knowledge.
• Advance local, national, and international library and information
initiatives; Develop, encourage, and sustain expertise, skill,
commitment and an innovative spirit in its staff.
• And to follow the mission of its parent organization

PURPOSES/ FUNCTIONS

The College is proud of its library. The main


purpose of the Library is
• Development of collection
• organization of the collected documents
• Dissemination of those documents to the
right users specially, to the poor and needy
students who come from the rural areas of
the nearby locality at the right time.
WORKING HOURS OF THE LIBRARY

The Library remains open on all working


days from 10-00am to 5-00 pm except on
Sundays and other national and gazetted
holidays.

AUTOMATION OF THE CENTRAL LIBRARY
• The College Library is automated with KOHA
Library Management software.
• All the house keeping operations of the
central library are carried out through the
computer. RFID as well as Barcode Library
Management System is being introduced for
fast and accurate circulation service.
DIGITAL LIBRARY

The state of the art Digital Library Management


Software D-space, developed by MIT, USA and
Hewlett Packard will be installed shortly in the
Central Library of NC College, Badarpur. This open
source software will be customized to suit with our
requirements. D-space accepts all forms of the
digital materials including text, images, video and
audio files for future access as and when required
by users.

BEST LIBRARY USER AWARD -2017


To motivate the students to
make the efficient use of the library
and its services, “Brajagopal
Chakrabarty- Anjali Chakrabarty
Best Library User Award” has been
started from the session 2014-2015.
Two students are selected one from
the boys and one from the girls, on
the basis of the statistical data,
accession of books, reading
aptitude of the student, utilization
of library resources, discipline and
the review of the librarian.
