COMPUTER SYSTEM
AND DEVICES
MOST ESSENTIAL
LEARNING
COMPETENCY

Identify the
components
of computer
system and its
devices
Computer has become an
essential tool nowadays for it
WHAT I accomplishes several tasks
NEED TO which makes our life easier
KNOW? and faster. It is composed of
hardware and software
components.
the physical components of the
HARDWA computer that can be
seen and touched.
RE Examples are central processing
unit (CPU), hard disk, monitor,
keyboard and mouse.

COMPUTER
the set of instructions that guides
the hardware to operate effectively.
It is the program that runs on the
computer that can be seen but
SOFTWAR cannot be touched.
E Examples are operating system,
applications and programs
installed on a computer.
COMPUTER SYSTEM
INPUT PROCESS OUTPUT STORAGE

A computer system is a set of integrated devices that input, output, process

and store data and information. Once the data is received through an input
unit based on the instructions given, it will be processed leading to producing
an output as a result and the data or information can be stored afterwards.

COMPUTER SYSTEM
INPUT PROCESS OUTPUT STORAGE

Enters or accepts data and

instructions from the user to start the
process.
INPUT DEVICE
Keyboard
used to type
data or
instruction in
the computer
through typing
INPUT DEVICE Mouse
used to enter
instruction or
data in the
computer
through clicking,
pointing or
dragging
INPUT DEVICE Microphone
an audio input device
also known as speech
or voice recognition
system that allows a
user to send audio
signals to a computer
for processing,
recording, or carrying
out commands
INPUT DEVICE Scanner
a device that reads
text or illustrations
printed on paper
and translates the
information into a
form the computer
can read and use
INPUT DEVICE Touch Screen
Display screen that
is sensitive to the
touch of a finger
or stylus. Once the
data is touched or
navigated, the
instruction starts
to enter the process
COMPUTER SYSTEM
INPUT PROCESS OUTPUT STORAGE

Processes information or data

once entered in the computer
system.
PROCESSING DEVICE CPU (Central
Processing Unit)
the only processing
device in the
computer system
that thinks, analyzes,
calculates and
processes data or
information once
entered in the
computer
COMPUTER SYSTEM
INPUT PROCESS OUTPUT STORAGE

Displays the result after the computer has

processed the data. It is used to communicate
the results of data processing carried out by an
information that has been entered.
OUTPUT DEVICE Monitor
displays information
in visual form, using
text and graphics
as a result of the
information being
processed that can
be seen
OUTPUT DEVICE Printer
a device that
prints text or
Illustrations
on paper
producing an
output / result
of the
information
OUTPUT DEVICE Speakers
allows you to
listen to music
and hear sound
effects from
the computer
as an output
or result
OUTPUT DEVICE LCD Projector
an optical device
that displays or
projects an
image into a
flat surface
called as
projection screen
OUTPUT DEVICE
Headset

a device which
allows us to
hear voice
data from the
computer
COMPUTER SYSTEM
INPUT PROCESS OUTPUT STORAGE

A device used to store or keep

information in the computer.
STORAGE DEVICE ROM (Read
Only Memory)

non-volatile,
meaning it
holds data
even when
the power is
Primary Storage ON or OFF
STORAGE DEVICE RAM (Random
Access Memory)
Volatile, meaning
it holds data
only when the
power is on.
When the power
is off, RAM’s
Primary Storage contents are lost
STORAGE DEVICE HDD (Hard
Disk Drive)
A magnetic storage
device that is
installed inside the
computer. The hard
drive is used as
permanent storage
of data
STORAGE DEVICE SSD (Solid-
State Drive)
a newer
alternative
to hard disk
drives (HDDs),
which have
been around
since the 1950s
STORAGE DEVICE
STORAGE DEVICE Compact Disc
(CD) and Digital
Versatile Disc
(DVD)

used to store
data through
the process of
data burning
STORAGE DEVICE
STORAGE DEVICE USB Flash
Drive
a thumb drive
device used
to save data
and comes
in a handy
feature
STORAGE DEVICE Floppy Disk
During the 1990s were flash
drives and external hard disk
weren’t around, computer
files were saved using a
diskette or 3 ½ floppy disk.
It can only hold 800
kilobytes (KB) or 1.44
megabytes (MB) of data,
enough only for text
document. A lot of diskettes
were used and bought then
if you needed to save
various files.
