Road Traffic Management
 INTRODUCTION

 Traffic congestion on road network is nothing but slower

speeds, increased trip time and increased queuing of the
vehicles . When the number of vehicles exceeds the capacity
of the road, traffic congestion occurs . Traffic congestion is
caused when the demand exceeds the available road
capacity . This is known as Saturation. In cities of INDIA
this is a major problem . There are even severe security
problems in traffic system due to anti social elements which
also leads to stagnation of traffic at one place . Hence there
is need to manage traffic in a smart way as the management
of traffic with the conventional way such as signaling system
is not having a major effect in curbing congestion of
vehicular traffic.
 EXISTING SYSTEM
The Signal System is controlled
Manually each and every time .
The time should be set manually
As per the traffic , even though
The traffic density is still higher
So time consumption is higher.

 PROBLEMS DUE TO TRAFFIC

Pollution due to road traffics are increasing day by day

leading to intense pollution problems like smog and
also contributing to global warming

Severe congestion also may lead to drivers being involved

in road rage incidents that can have minor impacts like
increased stress, or major impacts like damage to vehicles
injuries to driver ,passengers or even death.

It is also the main cause of wastage of fuels and air

pollution . Unsafe driving is the main cause of jam
which may lead to road mishaps and hence injuries .
Emergency vehicles
Like fire brigade and ambulance
Gets stuck up in traffic jams
That cause a delay in reaching
The location .

People experience delays for their

important works . This may even
result in personal as well as
professional losses.

RFID CONTROLLER The Radio Frequency Identification.

This interrogator is used for the communication with RFID tag .
The RFID controller can have serial interface through which
external GSM/GPRS devices can be interfaced with it to make
dual radio device.

RFID Tag These are wireless devises which make use

Of radio frequency electromagnetic fields to transfer data
,which is used for identifying and tracking of the objects.
These are of two types active and passive . Active RFID has a
battery installed, which the passive RFID doesn’t have.
 APPLICATIONS

Detection and management of

traffic congestion:
A server can be maintained
which can receive certain
crucial data calculated by the
controller of signs . The main
aim to implement a system
that would trace the travel
time of individual cars as they
pass . If congestion is sensed
then system would control
traffic signals and will
generate automatic re-routing
messages to selected
approaching vehicls.

 Automatic billing of Core Area /Toll Charges

Automatic toll collection and automatic core area charge , collections are
also done using the same framework .Controller unit will be placed at
toll-booth and along the motor able roads around the core which will
detect each individual vehicle uniquely within its zone by capturing
their device ids and will keep the record of time during which the vehicle
was seen with these accordingly the main serve will calculate and raise
the bills against the vehicle ids

The purposed work focuses on Smart Traffic Management System using
RFID which will eliminate the drawbacks of the existing system such as
High implementation cost ,dependency on the environmental conditions,
Etc. Futhermore the study presents the problems in metropolitan areas all
Over world caused by congestion .Presentation have a negative impact on
The financial situation of the country ,on the environment and hence
Overall quality of life.
