INTRODUCTION

Biomedical waste is any kind

of waste containing infectious
materials . These wastes are
generally generated in
hospitals and health care units.
Such waste include
solids,liquids, laboratory
wastes and sharp instruments
which have great potential to
cause infections if discarded
without any proper care.
Biomedical Waste
Management
Steps to manage BMW

 Characterization
 Quantification
 Segregation
 Storage
 Transportaion
 Treatment
 Diposal
Objective
 The main objective of this service is to keep the environment clean
with the ultimate goal of reducing hospital associated infections,
thereby redcuing the average length of stay of a patient.

 Recyle the waste after to the possible extent and to treat the waste
by safe environment friendly and acceptable methods.

 This waste should be adequately handled so as to prevent health

care associated infections.

 Discuss the regulations applicable to the medical waste and outline

the exposure control plan.

Conclusion
• Thus refuse disposal cannot be solved without public education.

• Individual participation is required.

• Municipality and government should pay importance to disposal of the waste

economically.

• Educating and motivation oneself first is important then preach others about it.

• Do follow the THREE R’s of environment i.e Reduce ,Reuse and Recycle to
maintain the ecosystem balanced and healthy.
Acknowledgement
We are thankful to our teacher Ms. Darpana Mam for suggesting the
survey of mini project which gave us a chance of experiencing our visit
to hospital and learning about how the process of Biomedical waste
management is carried out.
The visit to the hospital and survey about this grave us an
opportunity to interact with staff and to see and understand how the
waste management process is carried out. We are also thankful to the
hospital staff for supporting and giving us their valuable time to make
us understand the management properly.
