LINKING WORDS

AIM: to join ideas with linking words


Linking words are:
 Also called as “connectors”
 Words that link 2 or more ideas.
 Different according to their purpose or usage.
 The most commnon are: AND, BUT, OR.
LINKING WORD: “AND”
 Means “y”.
 It’s used to introduce and additional idea.
 For example:

“I like apples and oranges”


“She is working at home and cooking for her
children”
LINKING WORD: “OR”
 Means “o”.
 It’s used to introduce and alternative idea.
 For example:

“Do you want coffee or tea?”


“Some people prefer chatting on the internet or
phoning their best friends at night”
LINKING WORD: “BUT”
 Means “pero”
 It’s used to introduce a contrast between ideas.
 For example:

“He likes music, but not reggae”


“He was studying a lot for the test, but he got a bad
mark anyway.”
Use and, or, but, to connect the following
