FUNGI
WHAT IS FUNGI?
Fungi are a group of living
organisms which are classified in
their own kingdom. This means
they are not animals, plants, or
bacteria. Unlike bacteria, which
have simple prokaryotic
cells, fungi have complex
eukaryotic cells like animals and
plants.
FOOD INDUSTRIES

1] Yeast ,a unicellular fungus, is

important in bakeries as it is used in
the making of bread.

2] Apart from this yeast is also used

to produce alcohol.
MEDICINES,VACCINE & HUMAN BODY
1] Penicillin an important
antibiotic is obtained from a
fungus called Pencillium
notatum.

2]In addition, fungi can be

used to produce
human hormones.
TEXTILE INDUSTRIES
1] Fungi have been used to
synthesize natural dyes and
pigments as an alternative to
artificial pigments.
ENVIRONMENT & AGRICULTURE
1] Fungi ,are also good
decomposers .They decompose
dead organic matter and return the
nutrients back into the soil.

2] Fungi are an important source of

food .Some mushrooms such as
Morchella and Agaricus are edible.
SOME OF THE OTHER USES OF FUNGI?
1] Humans also use fungi for pest
control.

2] In addition, fungi can be used to

produce citric acid.
BACTERIA
WHAT IS BACTERIA?
Bacteria are microscopic organisms
which aren’t visible with the naked
eye. Bacteria are everywhere, both
inside and outside of your
body. Bacteria can live in a variety
of environments, from hot water to
ice. Some bacteria are good for you,
while others can make you sick.
FOOD INDUSTRIES
1] Certain bacteria like
Acetobacter ferment fruit juices
into vinegar (acetic acid).

2] They are used in winemaking,

baking, pickling, fermenting
yogurt and other food-making
processes.
MEDICINE,VACCINES & HUMAN
BODY
1] Antibiotics are medicines that
can destroy disease causing germs
in the body .Certain types of
bacteria are used in the
manufacture of antibiotics such as
streptomycin to treat various
human diseases.
TEXTILE INDUSTRIES
1] Tanning of leather : Certain
bacteria are used in curing animal
hides and skin.

2] Retting of fibers : Jute fibers are

separated and made softer by the
use of bacteria.
ENVIRONMENT & AGRICULTURE
1] Formation of compost and manure :
Cow dung, horse dung and agricultural
wastes are subjected to bacterial action
which causes their decay and produce
very useful manure.

2] Bacteria are essential for decomposing

organic matter and recycling old plant
material. Some soil bacteria form
relationships with plant roots that provide
important nutrients like nitrogen or
phosphorus.
SOME OTHER USES OF BACTERIA
ARE?
1] Chemical manufacturing,
such as the production of
organic acids, enzymes, and
perfumes.

2] Bacteria helps in the

formation of energy in the form
of biogas.
PROTISTS
WHAT IS A PROTISTS?
Protists are simple eukaryotic
organisms that are neither plants
nor animals or fungi. Protists are
unicellular in nature but can also
be found as a colony of cells.
Most protists live in water, damp
terrestrial environments or even
as parasites
FOOD INDUSTRIES
1] Another use of protists is that it
is used in extracts for making ice
cream.

2] See weed are protists, and are a

vital part of the meal in coastal
regions.
MEDICINE,VACCINES & HUMAN
BODY
1]Medicines made
from protists are used in treatment
of high blood pressure, digestion
problems, ulcers, and arthritis

2] Soil-living protists are used to
analyze the chemical signals in
cells.
TEXTILE INDUSTRIES
1] Some protists are being tapped
as a new resource to make fibers,
finishes and dyes for the textile
industry.

2] Protists like algae bloom can

also produce non-chemical oils.
ENVIRONMENT & AGRICULTURE
1] Protists produce almost one-half
of the oxygen on the planet through
photosynthesis.

2] Some other protists decompose
and recycle nutrients that humans
need to live.
SOME OTHER USES OF PROTISTS
ARE?
1] Another use of protists is
that it is used in extracts for
making cosmetics.

2] Protists like algae also

provides cellulose or
proteins.
