Feasibility Study Adviser TOPICS FOR DISCUSSION • Grading • Attendance • FS Guidelines • Miscellaneous Policies GRADING Interim Grades •Interim grades (prelim, midterm, final) shall be computed as 2/3 Class Participation (CP) + 1/3 Periodical Test (PT). TRC •Students are required to get their interim grades using the Temporary Report Card (TRC). Final Grade •The final grade in the course is the average of the three interim grades. The sum of the interim grades must be 9.00 or lower to pass the course. Assessment •The components of CP are:
different chapters of the feasibility study that are submitted based on the deadlines prescribed by the Feasibility Study Adviser. Class Requirements (20%)
•Class requirements refer to all
requirements other than the FS manuscript like quizzes, long tests, assignments, recitation, etc. QUIZZES •A quiz shall be given every meeting. The quiz may be given before, during or after class discussion. QUIZZES •Each quiz shall only be up to 20 points. There can be more than one quiz in a meeting. QUIZZES •Quizzes may be on-the-spot or online via the Google Classroom or Quizizz. •Students are required to activate their official CEU Gmail account to be used to log in to Google Classroom. LONG TESTS •A long test may be given after the end of a unit or chapter. It is always announced ahead of time and is worth 100 points. ASSIGNMENTS •Assignments must be handwritten on intermediate pad paper using black ball pen or black sign pen only. •Do not write at the back page. •Incomplete assignments are not allowed. ASSIGNMENTS •Erasures are not allowed. •Assignments must be submitted on or before 15 minutes after the official start of class. Submission after such time is no longer permitted. RECITATION •As a general rule, a student shall be asked to recite only once per meeting. •Students are required to stand when called for recitation. THE FS DEFENSE • The Feasibility Study Defense shall be the final oral examination for the course. • Students are strictly required to abide by all the rules and instructions that will be discussed by the FS Adviser in this regard. PRODUCT PROTOTYPE • A product prototype is a requirement for final FS defense. • Failure to submit a product prototype shall automatically mean a grade of 5.00 in the defense. Attendance and Decorum (20%)
•Attendance means coming to class
and coming to class on time. •Decorum refers to student attitude and behaviour. Demerit System
•Grading for attendance and decorum
shall be on a demerit basis. •All students start with a grade of 1.00. How the Demerit System Works
•Students shall be given a demerit of
+2 for each unexcused absence, +1 for each ½ absence, and +0.50 for each violation committed (University, School or Class policies). Sample Computation •A student who incurs one unexcused absence and two violations during the prelim shall obtain a grade of 4.00 for attendance and decorum. •1 (starting grade) + 2 (demerit for absence) + 1 (demerit for violations = 0.50 x 2 violations) ATTENDANCE Maximum Allowed •Students are allowed during the entire semester a maximum of 3 absences for once-a-week classes or 6 absences for twice-a-week classes. The count shall include unexcused absences only. Unofficially Dropped (UD) •Any student who exceeds the maximum allowable number of unexcused absences shall automatically be dropped, given a final grade of Unofficially Dropped (UD), and required to repeat the course. Readmission Slip
•All students who are marked absent
are required to present a readmission slip on the day they come back to class. No Readmission Slip
•When a student who was absent
fails to present a readmission slip, he shall be allowed to attend class but the absence shall automatically be considered not excused. Checking of Attendance •Attendance shall be checked 15 minutes after the official start of class. Any student who is not in his/her assigned seat during the checking of attendance shall be marked absent. Tardiness •A student who comes to class after attendance has been checked but within 30 minutes after the start of class may still enter the room but must personally approach the teacher after class so that he can be marked late, not absent. Tardiness •Three counts of tardiness shall make up one unexcused absence. Half-absence •For 3-hour classes, a student may be allowed to enter during the break period, in which case he/she shall be marked half-absent. •Two counts of half-absences shall be considered one absence. Missed Requirements
•Any requirement missed due to an
unexcused absence shall mean ZERO. No make up requirement shall be given. Entering the Room
•If the room is DCTH 412, the class
beadle must get the key from the teacher and open the room but the rest of the class is allowed to enter the room only when the teacher has entered the room already. Teacher Not Around •In case the teacher is not around 15 minutes from the start of class, students are NOT automatically dismissed. The class beadle must go to the Dean’s Office, report that the teacher is not around, and ask for instructions. Excused Absences •Illness – Medical Certificate is required. •Death of an immediate family member •Approved University or School activity •Inform teacher ahead of time •Present proof of attendance upon coming back to class FS GUIDELINES FS as a Group Effort
•The preparation of the FS shall be
a group effort. The class shall be divided into groups of 5-7 members each. Individual Effort
•Since this is a group work,
individual effort shall be graded based on the evaluation of all group members. Group Evaluation •Each group member is required to rate all his group mates from 0 to 10 (10 being the highest) based on their individual effort, participation and contribution in each FS requirement. Submission of Evaluation •Ratings must be submitted individually on ¼ sheet of paper upon submission of every FS group requirement. Confidentiality of Evaluation •Grades given by group members must be kept STRICTLY CONFIDENTIAL. Any group member proven to have divulged his evaluation shall be given a grade of 5.00 for the requirement. Effect of Evaluation •Only those who have obtained an average rating of at least 8.00 from the group members are entitled to the group grade for FS requirements. Evaluation below 8.00 •Those whose average rating is below 8.00 shall obtain the following grades •7.00 to 7.99 = 3.50 •6.00 to 6.99 = 4.00 •Below 6.00 = 5.00 Working in a Group •Working in a group is part of the training in the FS class. Students shall be allowed to choose their own group members. Transferring to a New Group •Transferring from one group to another is strictly prohibited. There is “no life outside the group.” Generally, no individual FS shall be allowed. Misunderstanding •Misunderstanding within the group is normal, but it must never be too severe to break the group apart. Any major disagreement or fight in the group shall mean a grade of 5.00 for all members of the group. Problem Members •Should there be problem members in the group, such shall be reported to the FS adviser immediately. Only the FS adviser has the power to pull out problem members from the group. Pulling Out •Any student who pulls out or who is taken out from a group by the FS adviser, shall obtain a grade of 5.00 for the course. Financial Contributions •Financial contributions for FS expenses are unavoidable, but students are required to ensure the collection of a reasonable and adequate amount. Agreement for Contributions •Prior to collection, all group members must sign an agreement for contributions containing the amount agreed upon and the reason/s for collection. Contract of Agreement •At the start of the semester, students are required to submit a Contract of Agreement governing the rules and regulations pertaining to the FS group. Contents of the Contract •Names of group members •Guidelines and policies governing the group (attendance, sanctions, contributions, etc.) •Schedule of group meetings (at least 6 hours a week) •Signature of all group members MISCELLANEOUS POLICIES PAPER AND INK •Use intermediate pad paper unless otherwise required. Use black ink for all written requirements, except during periodical exams when Scantron sheets are used as answer sheets, in which case a #2 lead pencil must be used. BORROWING AND LENDING •Students are not allowed to borrow or lend anything during examinations. Deductions shall be given to both the borrower and the lender. Students are required to bring their own paper for class requirements. TEXTBOOKS/REFERENCES
•Students are required to bring their
books or photocopies (if permitted) every meeting during the semester. LEAVING THE ROOM
•No student is permitted to leave the
room during official class time, except during emergency cases and/or after the teacher’s permission is sought. COMPLAINTS •Complaints in checking of papers or computation of grades must be brought to the teacher’s attention on the very same day when the papers are returned or when the grades are released to the students. CHEATING • Cheating is punishable by a grade of 5.00 for the entire grading period on the first offense and a grade of 5.00 for the entire semester on the second offense. PLAGIARISM • Plagiarism is a serious case of academic dishonesty and shall be meted out with a grade of 5.00 in the course, and possibly, exclusion. END OF LESSON 1
