Typical Honduran Dish
Lake Yojoa Style Tilapia
Introduction
If there is something that makes us proud of being Hondurans, it
is our gastronomy, since it is full of flavors that anyone can
enchant. Among these delicacies is La Tilapia with the only
seasoning that can exist only in Lake Yojoa, which is raised in
this same lake. Many national and international tourists visit this
beautiful place for the exquisite Tilapia which is accompanied
with slices of green banana, purple cabbage salad and pickles.
Ingredients

1 medium tilapia
Use necessary amount of salt and pepper
1 cup of wheat flour
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 liter of vegetable oil for frying
¼ head of purple cabbage
½ cup of grated carrot
1 lemon
1 tablespoon of mayonnaise
Step by step procedure
 1. Clean the fish inside and out. Make 3 to 4 cuts (depending on
the size of the fish) diagonally on each side, season to taste and
reserve.

 2. In a tray or plate add the flour, garlic powder, onion powder and
mix well.

 3. Pass the fish through the already prepared flour until it adheres
well and shake off the excess, fry in a pan with plenty of hot oil,
until golden on both sides. Remove and drain on a paper towel.
 4. To make the salad, finely chop the purple cabbage, wash
with drinking water and keep it hot, drain and incorporate in a
bowl with the Carrot, the lemon juice, the mayonnaise, and
season to taste.

 5. Finally serve the Typical Honduran Dish in Lake Yojoa Style.

Lake Yojoa Tourist Zone

 Curious fact

It is the only natural lake in Honduras, it is distributed between the

departments of Cortés, Comayagua and Santa Bárbara, located
650 meters above sea level, has a perimeter of 50 km and covers
an area of approximately 96 km2, it is located in a very rainy zone
3,000 mm per year.

It owns the Yojoa Rio Lindo hydroelectric plant, which is why it

plays an important economic role. In 2005 it was recognized as a
Wetland of World Interest by the UN, through the RAMSAR
Convention. And it was declared protected area No. 5 in the
Multiple Uses Category under Legislative Decree No. 71, on
December 8, 1971.
 Its name according to some scholars is of Mayan origin, a word
composed of the voices YOCO-HA that means accumulated
water on the earth.
Tourism
 Tourism For tourists, the place offers multiple options to
spend several days in the area. In the Lake of Yojoa there are
many restaurants, also several hotels with typical rooms of
