STATIONERY

• Stationery can be defined as materials (such as paper, pens, and ink) for
writing or typing and letter papers usually accompanied with matching
envelopes.
• Paper sizes refer to the measurement of the paper.
• Orientation is the direction in which a rectangular page is displayed or
printed.
• Envelopes sizes refer to the measurement of the envelope.

• A sheet of paper is in portrait orientation if it is in vertical format, that


is, if it is taller than it is wide.
• A sheet of paper is in landscape orientation if it is in horizontal format,
that is, it is wider than it is tall.

Business letters are official communication and are therefore written in formal
language and must be prepared using specific layouts and formats.
The three main letter layouts are:
Full Block
Semi – Block
Indented

A label is a piece of paper, with an


adhesive on one side, on which
information such as an address is printed.
Types of Letter

Types Purpose

Application To introduce an applicant to a prospective employer

Enquiry To obtain information from the recipient

Response to enquiry To supply information in response to enquiry

Order Written to a manufacturer, wholesaler or retailer to request


products or services

Sales To sell a product or service

Complaint To convince reader that you have a valid complaint and to


obtain a desired response

Response to complaint To tell the customer how you plan to handle the situation
