II.REACTOR
1. Continuously Stirred Tank Reactor

Description

1. No accumulation in the tank

2. Continuously and perfectly stirred
3. Temperature and concentration are the
same in all the tank.

ADVANTAGES DISADVANTAGES
• Continuous operation
• Good temperature control • By-passing and channeling
• Low operating (labor) cost possible with poor agitation
• Easy to clean

6
II.REACTOR
2. Plug Flow Reactor

Description
1. Polymerization occur in pipe
2. Simplest form of reactor

ADVANTAGES DISADVANTAGES
• Low operating (labor) cost
• Continuous Operation • Cleaning may be expensive
• Good heat transfer

7
II.REACTOR
3. Gas Phase Reactor

Description
1. FBR consists of an empty cylinder
2. Three zones: the distributor plate, the
reaction zone and the disengagement zone.

ADVANTAGES DISADVANTAGES
• Good heat transfer
• Low capital and • Erosion of internal
operating cost components :
• Continuous operation wall, distributor plate

III.PRODUCTION
2.ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES

PRODUCTION ADVANTAGES DISADVANTAGES

• High resistance to chemicals • Harder to process than LDPE
• High elongation resistance • Lower gloss than LDPE
LLDPE • High tensile strength
• Better strength to low temperature
• Easy to recycle
• High resistance to chemicals
• Good low temperature impact resistance • lower stiffness compared to PP
HDPE • Highest Tensile Strength compared to • Low elongation
LDPE, LLDPE
• Easy to recycle.

• PP only preserves its properties

• High resistance to abrasive acids above 0ºC
PP • More lightweight material than PE • PP is much less flexible
• More rigid than PE
• Easy to recycle.
