Environmental Engineering

An Environmental Engineer does several things each day, such as
figuring out how certain buildings in planning will affect the environment,
and even helping to remove waste from future building sites. Every day,
these engineers will research ways to make everything they build more
energy efficient, more powerful, or that effects the environment in a
positive way. In the U.S. alone, there are about 54,300 Environmental
Engineers, all doing different jobs, and working for different employers,
like the federal, state, or local government. There are many ways to get a
job as an Environmental Engineer, but first you must get at least a
bachelor’s, and have a large aptitude for mechanics, math, science, and
biology. If you fit those qualifications, to get this specific engineering job,
you usually have to have at least 2 extra years of training for that job after
college. In this work force, the average annual payment is about $69,940,
and at the end of your career, only about a $4,000 pension. Within the next
couple of decades, there will be an increasing need for more Environmental
Engineers, so the career mobility for this job will go up. There are several
ways to help the environment with this career, and it would be a self-
rewarding job opportunity for anyone.
