What is Wind Energy?
Wind is air in motion. It is caused by
huge convection currents in the Earth's
atmosphere, driven by heat energy
from the Sun. This means as long as
the sun shines, there will be wind.

The moving air (wind) has huge

amounts of kinetic energy, and this
can be transferred into electrical
energy using wind turbines.

Calculation of Wind Power
Power=Work/Time
=Kinetic Energy/t
=½mV²/t
=½ (ρAd)V²/t
=½ρAV²(d/t)
=½ρAV³
So, Power in the Wind=½ρAV³
Where,
ρ is the effect of air density
A is the effect of swept area
V is the effect of wind speed
Swept Area , A=πR²
R is the radius of rotor.

What is Wind Turbine ?
A wind turbine is a device
that converts kinetic
energy from the wind into
electrical power. A wind
turbine used for charging
batteries may be referred
to as a wind charger.

08/06/2021 9
Types of Wind Turbine
Turbines can be categorized into two classes based
on the orientation of the rotor.

Vertical-Axis Turbines

Advantages Disadvantages
o Omni-directional o Rotors generally near ground
- accepts wind from any where wind is poorer
direction o Centrifugal force stresses
o Components can be blades
o Poor self-starting capabilities
mounted at ground level
o Requires support at top of
- ease of service turbine rotor
- lighter weight towers o Requires entire rotor to be
o Can theoretically use less removed to replace bearings
materials to capture the o Overall poor performance
same amount of wind and reliability
Horizontal-Axis Wind Turbines

Small (<10 kW) Intermediate(10-250 kW)

oVillage Power
oHomes
oHybrid Systems
oFarms
oDistributed Power
oRemote Applications

Modern Wind Power Technology
The negatives effects of fossil fuels which
are non-renewable have forced the
scientists to draw attention to clean sources
that are both environmentally more
suitable and renewable. Global wind energy
market experiencing a rapid growth
especially last decades with the help of
modern technology.Now a days different
types of wind turbines are invented which
are more efficient and easy to install.

Different Types of Wind Turbines
Bladeless Wind Turbine A research company in New
Hampshire recently patented its
bladeless wind turbine, which is
based on patent issued to Nikola
Tesla in 1913.This turbine is
developed by Solar Aero.The
specialty of Fuller Wind Turbine is
it has only one rotating part, known
as the turbine-driveshaft.The entire
machinery is assembled inside a
housing.Wind turbines are often
disliked by environmentalists
because they kill birds and bats and
often generate noise for the
residents living nearby.

Jet Engines the Wind power has recently received a
nice boost as one of the hottest
Inspiration for Wind forms of energy on the market
Turbine .When comparing the recent market
growth against all forms of energy
,both renewable and non
renewable.Wind turbines seem to
be jumping to the head of the
pack. While it stil has a way to go
before it catches up to solar, it is
gaining ground rather
quickly.Something that will help pick
up the pace even further is new
technology that is coming from
Flodesign.Their truly unique wind
turbine is actually based on the
design of a jet engine instead of the
traditional windmills.Their concept
seems to be a effective.

Portable Wind Turbine Renewable energy is one of
the hottest things on the
market right now but until
recently, solar power has been
getting most of the
attention.While there are
plenty of techno gadgets ,like
solar laptop chargers, that
cancan solar power on the
run, very few if any items exist
for other sources of renewable
energy to become
portable.The portable wind
generator has all the right
ideas ,but may still be just a
bit ahead of its time.

The Kite Wind Turbine  It's an expert estimation that the
total energy stored in wind is 100
times higher than actually needed by
humans on this earth. The catch is
that we have to learn and devise ways
to trap this wind power blowing
across the planet earth. Experts tell
us one more thing that most of the
wind energy is available at high
altitude and we can’t manufacture
turbines of that height. So we have to
think of new ways to trap that wind
power blowing at a significant
height. Some experts estimate that
the total energy contained in wind is
100 times the amount needed by
everyone on the planet. However,
most of this energy is at high
altitudes, far beyond the reach of any
wind turbine

Invelox Wind Turbine  Wind is captured at the top of the funnel
shaped INVELOX system. The
omnidirectional intake area allows wind
collection from any directionWind is
delivered to the turbine/generators to
convert the accelerated wind to electrical
power. INVELOX is the first single wind
tower capable of powering multiple
turbines in a row or series.Diffuser returns
wind to nature. SheerWind’s INVELOX is
a solution that utilizes current wind
power turbines and rotors but brings
them to ground level for easier, safer, and
cheaper operation and maintenance.
Multiple turbines can be used in a row or
series increasing output exponentially for
each tower.SheerWind’s mission is to
provide sustainable, affordable, electrical
energy to anyone, anywhere. Producing
600% more electrical energy (kWh).
Increasing energy production capacity to
record high of 72%.

The future of wind energy in Bangladesh
Countries all over the world are
setting targets for wind power.
It is estimated that 22,000
megawatts of wind energy
capacity, in the form of 40,000
wind turbines will be installed
in the next 10 years. This
represents an annual market of
around 2.4 billion Euros.
Europe is the hub of this global
business, with six companies
supplying over half of the
world's turbines global wind
energy market. Europe stands
to benefit greatly from this
move towards
sustainability.After all,in
Bangladesh we can produce
10000 MW electricity in a year
by using wind energy.Because
we have good wind speed in our
country.
