CHAPTER 1:
BACKGRO INTRODUCTION
UND

 Strength Characteristic of Steel .

 To Study the Behaviour of different bent up bars.

 Tensile Strength of steel

 Qualities of Steel Concrete Works

CHAPTER 1:
STATEMENT OFINTRODUCTION
PROBLEM
a) To compare the bent condition and cold bending at site and see its
difference in tensile strength
b) To study the behaviour of already bent of bars and perform tensile
test of 12mm,16mm and 20mm bar.
c) Construction of large projects involve huge steel which are not
stored and handled properly to preserve its standard tensile
strength.
CHAPTER 1:
1. RESEARCH INTRODUCTION
QUESTION
This research work will give the answer of following questions:

1. What are the factors that affect the tensile strength of steel .
2. What is the difference between strength at bent condition and cold
bending at site.
3. What are the effects tensile strength of steel on desired strength of
concrete.
CHAPTER 1:
ESEARCH INTRODUCTION
OBJECTIVES
The overall objective of the research is
 To analyze the effect corrosion and other handling behaviour on tensile
strength of steel .

 The specific objectives are

I. To study the behaviour of already bent of bars and perform tensile test of
12mm,16mm and 20mm bar.

II. To access the reinforcement handling behaviour of construction

III. Factors afffecting strength and rigidity of Reinforcement.

CHAPTER 1:
INTRODUCTION
SIGNIFICANCE OF
THE STUDY

1. The main aim of this study is to study on tensile strength and ductility of
already bent steel bar, transported from factories to construction
sites, when they are re-straightened and used in major structural elements.
2. After this research works, We will know how our handling behaviour affects
the tensile strength of steel. Placing ,storing etc
3. As we know there is way of handling cement similarly steel should also be
handled with proper condition so that corrosion and other material don’t
affect its desired strength.
CHAPTER 1:
1.6 SCOPE AND INTRODUCTION
LIMITATION
SCOPE
• Study of Tensile strength of Steel of already bent bars of size of 12mm 16mm
and 20mm. Effect of other ingredients on Tensile strength of Steel is not cover
by this study
LIMITATION
• Research limited to only test of certain sample of 12mm a,16mm and 20mm
bar.
• the condition was limited to the tensile test on the already bent samples that
were transported to the site from the manufacturing companies. The test was
limited to the tensile test in UTM and visual inspection method on bending. Key
ingredient such as carbon content and other mineral composition test are not
CHAPTER 2: LITERATURE
REVIEW
2.1 THEORETICAL
REVIEW

Theoretical review
Findings
Although there are different grades and commercially available steel bars, these can
broadly be categorized as mild (plain) and deformed steel bars. According to IS 456:2000
code some of available steel bars are listed as:
a) Mild steel and medium tensile steel bars conforming to IS 432 (Part I).
b) High strength deformed steel bars conforming to IS 1786.
c) Hard-drawn steel wire fabric conforming to IS 1566.
d) Structural steel conforming to Grade A of IS 2062
In order to make design easier, stress-strain curve of reinforcement bar is idealized
CHAPTER 2: LITERATURE
2.2 RESEARCHREVIEW
GAP

Only few researches have been done in Nepal to ensure the effect on
tensile strength because of not properly handling behaviour of steel .
Factors affecting tensile strength of steel. and these research oriented
in Kathmandu valley and other major cities only. This research may fulfil
the gap in research between developed cities with developing cities.

CHAPTER 3:
3.4 DATA METHODOLOGY
COLLECTION
Laboratory Test
1. Tensile Test of steel bar of different size using ASTM machine .
2. To study the handling behaviour existing at site

ANALYSIS OF
DATA
 Obtain mean value of Tensile strength of each sample will be compared
with standard value of steel strength.
CHAPTER 3:
3.6 EXPECTED METHODOLOGY
OUTPUT

The expected outputs of this research work are as follows:

 Properties of steel and Tensile strength of respective sample .

 To assure the handling behaviour of steel as seen in the field.

 To provide information about effect of steel handling behaviour on

tensile strength.
