DOCTORS SERVICE

A doctor quickly entered the hospital after being called in for an urgent
surgery. He changed his clothes and went directly to the surgery block. He
saw the boy's father walking back and forth in the hall waiting for the
doctor.
Once seeing the doctor, the dad yelled: "Why did you take all this time to
come? Don't you know that my son's life is in danger? Don't you have the
sense of responsibility?"
The doctor smiled and said: "1 am sorry, I wasn't in the hospital and I
came the fastest I could. now, I wish you'd calm down so that can do my
work."
"Calm down?! What if your son was in this room right now, would you
calm down? If your own son dies now what will you do?" said the father
angrily.

The doctor smiled again and replied: "I will say what is said in the Holy Bible
From dust we came and to dust we return, blessed be the name of God.' Doctors
cannot prolong lives. Go and pray for your son, we will do our best by God’s
grace."
"Giving advice when we're not concerned is so easy" murmured the father.
The surgery took some hours after which the doctor went out happy, "Thank
God! Your son is saved!"
And without waiting for the father’s reply, he carried on his way running. "If
you have any question, ask the nurse.
"Why is he so arrogant? He couldn't wait some minutes so that I ask about my
son's state?" commented the father when seeing the nurse minutes after the
doctor left.

During some point of the journey, they had an argument, and one
friend slapped the other one in the face.
The one who got slapped was hurt, but without saying anything,
wrote in the sand;
“Today my best friend slapped me in the face.”
They kept on walking until they found an oasis, where they
decided to take a bath. The one who had been slapped got stuck in
the mud and started drowning, but the friend saved him. After he
recovered from the drowning, he wrote on a stone;
“Today my best friend saved my life.”

The friend who had slapped and saved his best friend asked him;
“After I hurt you, you wrote in the sand and now, you write on a
stone, why?”
The other friend replied;
“When someone hurts us, we should write it down in sand where
winds of forgiveness can erase it away. But, when someone does
something good for us, we must engrave it in stone where no
wind can ever erase it.”

Use all your strength

To ask for help and support when we need it is

not a sign of weakness, it is a sign of wisdom.
While walking along a forest path, Diana and her
father came across a large tree branch on the
ground.
Dad, if I try, do you think I could move that
branch?
I am sure you can if you use all your strength.
Diana tried her best to lift the branch, but she
couldn't move it.
You were wrong, dad. I can't move it.
The disappointment was clear in the little girl’s
voice.

Try again with all your strength.

Diana tried again but failed.
Dad, I cannot do it!
Young lady, I advised you to use all your
strength. You didn't ask for my help.

Father and son conversation

One day, father was doing some work and his son came and
asked, "Daddy, may I ask you a question?" Father said, "Yeah
sure, what it is?" So, his son asked, "Dad, how much do you make
an hour?" Father got bit upset and said, "That's none of your
business. Why do you ask such a thing?" Son said, "I just want to
know. Please tell me, how much do you make an hour?" So, father
told him that "I make $50 per hour."
"Oh", the little boy replied, with his head down. Looking up, he
said, "Dad, may I please borrow $25?" The father furiously said,
"if the only reason you asked about my pay is so that you can
borrow some money to buy a silly toy or other nonsense, then
march yourself to your room and go to bed. Think why you are
being so selfish. I work hard every day and do not like this
childish behavior."

The little boy quietly went to his room and shut the door. The
man sat down and started to get even angrier about the little
boy's question.
How dare he ask such questions only to get some money?
After about an hour or so, the man had calmed down, and
started to think, "May be there was something he really
needed to buy with that $25 and he really don’t ask for
money very often!" The man went to the door of little boy's
room and opened the door. "Are you asleep, son?" He asked.
"No daddy, I'm awake," replied the boy. "I've been thinking,
maybe I was too hard on you earlier", said the man. "It's been
a long day and I took out my aggravation on you, Here's the
$25 you asked for".

yelled. Then, reaching under his pillow he pulled some

his money, then looked up at his father.
"Why do you want money if you already had some?" the
father grumbled. "Because I didn't have enough, but now I
do," the little boy replied. "Daddy I have $50 now. Can I buy
an hour of your time? Please come home early tomorrow. I

Health is wealth

Once upon a time, there lived a generous and kind-hearted

king. But the people weren't happy with their king because
the king was very lazy and would not do anything other than
eating and sleeping.
He spent days and weeks and months in his bed either eating
something or sleeping. The king became very fat and the
people started to worry about the king.
One day, the king realized that he couldn't even move his
body, not even his foot. He became very fat and his enemies
made fun of him, calling him 'fatty king’.
The king invited expert doctors from various parts of his
country and offered them generous rewards to make him fit.
28
Health is wealth

Unfortunately, none could help the king gain his health and
fitness. The king spent enormous amounts of money but
everything went in vain.
One fine morning, a holy man visited the country. He heard
about the king’s situation, and informed the minister at the
palace that he could easily cure the king. Hearing these
promising words, the minister became very happy. He
requested the king to meet the holy man to get rid of his
problem.
The holy man resided at a distant place. Since the king could
not move his body, he asked the minister to bring the holy
man to the palace, but the holy man refused. He said that the
king had to go to him, in order to get cured.
29
Health is wealth

After strenuous efforts, the king met the holy man. The holy
man complimented the king saying that he was a good ruler,
and said that he would soon regain his health. He asked the
king to come for treatment the next day. He told the king also
that the king would be treated only if he came on foot to the
holy man’s house.
The King was unable to walk even a few steps on the road,
but aided by his followers, he reached the holy man's place.
Unfortunately, the holy man was not available there and his
servant requested the king to come and meet him the next
day for treatment.
This was repeated for two weeks and the king never met the
holy man, and never had any treatment. 30

Gradually, the king realized that he felt a lot lighter, lost a

Value yourself

A speaker started off his seminar by showing $20 to

the public. He asked the people “who wants this?”
There was no surprise to see that all of them lifted
their hands. He offered to give the money to one of
them but instead that he will do something else to it.
He crumpled the money and showed it again to the
crowd and repeated the question. Who wants this?
Still, everyone raised their hands. He then put the
money into the ground and stepped on it and then
raised it again and asked, who wants this? And offered
it to the public.

The people gathered there still showed interest to take that

money despite seeing how dirty the money was. He told the

Soldier’s story

A story is told about a soldier who was finally coming home

after having fought in Vietnam. He called his parents from
San Francisco. “Mom and Dad, I’m coming home, but I’ve a
favor to ask. I have a friend I’d like to bring home with me.
“Sure,” they replied, “we’d love to meet him.”
“There’s something you should know,” the son continued, “he
was hurt pretty badly in the fighting. He stepped on a
landmine and lost an arm and a leg. He has nowhere else to
go, and I want him to come to live with us.”
“I’m sorry to hear that, son. Maybe we can help him find
somewhere to live.”
“No, Mom and Dad, I want him to live with us.”
39
Soldier’s story

“Son,” said the father, “you don’t know what you’re asking.
Someone with such a handicap would be a terrible burden
on us. We have our own lives to live, and we can’t let
something like this interfere with our lives. I think you should
just come home and forget about this guy. He’ll find a way to
live on his own.”
At that point, the son hung up the phone. The parents heard
nothing more from him. A few days later, however, they
received a call from the San Francisco police station. Their
son had died after falling from a building, they were told. The
police believed it was suicide.
The heartbroken parents flew to San Francisco and were
taken to the city to identify the body of their son.
40
Soldier’s story

They recognized him, but they also discovered something they

didn’t know, their son had only one arm and one leg.
Moral: The parents in this story are like many of us. We find it easy
to love those who are good-looking or fun to have around, but we
don’t like people who inconvenience us or make us feel
uncomfortable. We would rather stay away from people who
aren’t as healthy, beautiful, or smart as we are. Thankfully, there’s
someone who won’t treat us that way. Someone who loves us with
an unconditional love that welcomes us into the forever family,
