DRAMATIC CONVENTIONS
• Established ways of working in drama
and are used to represent and organize
dramatic ideas.
• They strengthen and enhance the
performance piece.
• They assist in the telling of story and
offer insight into the character's past,
present,and even future.
Soliloquy
an act of speaking one's
thoughts aloud when alone
or regardless of any hearers.
Improvisation

• spontaneous invention and


development of drama from
within role.
Conscience Alley
• technique for exploring any
kind of dilemma faced by a
character.
Archetype
idealized model of a person or
concept from which similar
instances are copied or
emulated expressions.
Stock Character
• Relies heavily on cultural
types or stereotypes for its
personality and manner of
speech.
Fourth Wall
the imaginary invisible wall
at the front of the stage
through which the audience
sees the action.
Interior Monologue
• this is where the actor
speaks as if to himself or
herself.
Exterior Monologue

• this is where the actor


speaks to another person
who is not in the
performance space.
Narration
a technique whereby one or
more performers speak
directly to the audience to
tell a story.
Pantomime
telling of a story without
words
CROSS
• this is the movement of an actor
from one position on the stage to
another.
BLOCKING
• It is a theater term that refers to
the precise movement and
positioning of actors on a stgw in
order to facilitate the performance
of a play,ballet,film.etc.
VOCAL QUALITY
• The characteristics of a voice,
such as shrill,nasal,raspy,breathy,
booming and so forth.
PITCH
This is the highness and
lowness of voice.
