INTRODUCTION:
MEDIUM – refer to the physical means by
which the instructional message is
conveyed.

Selection of media is done after needs and

contextual analysis has been conducted.

It is also important to note that there is no

single best medium that ever existed.

EFFICACY OF USING TECHNOLOGY

Chickering and Ehrdmann (1996) - explain that instructional

media impacts the teaching and learning process.
1. Serves as vital channel in the exchange of ideas between the
teacher and students;
2. Motivates cooperation among stakeholders;
3. Teachers provide the students early, timely, and responsive
remarks;
4. Allocates time for ingenious task

SEVEN PRINCIPLES IN CHOOSING INSTRUCTIONAL MEDIA

1. Interaction between the students and the teacher (Tutor

or expert)
- Significant since most students have been to study in a
cooperative environment. 1
2. Student to student interaction
- This peer relationship is an essential way to establish online
relationship where students can perform better.

3. Active Learning
- Also called experiential learning, trial and error or
learning by doing.
4. Rich, rapid, feedback 1
- Involves giving comments or remarks where the teacher
could be reached in case the students needs a boost.
5. Time on task
- Many students would like to enroll in online education as
they are benefitted work and career-wise.

6. High expectations of the student’s ability to learn

- Instructors in online education generate a lot of
innovative lessons that the students can readily avail of.
1
7. Respect for different talents and ways of learning
- Diversity is always present among learners, but in online
education, teachers have the capacity to conceptualize and
produce virtual lessons and materials to meet the varying
needs of the students.

Ballado (2012) espouses:
1. Principle of Appropriateness
 Instructional materials should clearly state the aims pf the
lesson, applicable to the grade level and vocabulary,
concepts, and methods should1 be suitable to the class
level.
2. Principle of Authencity
 IM’s should be factual and well defined, timely and
reliable.

3. Principle of Use
TITLE:
 Availability of alternative Ims that could be used in case
the ones that are first created fail or be lost or corrupted
on the screen or websites.
4. Principle of Interest
 Ims should be designed in such a way that could spur
the enthusiasm of the learners
1
to go o with their tasks or
work.
5. Principle of Organization and Balance
 Ims and their conents should be aligned with the
curriculum. Objectives should be based on the SMART
acronym and topics should be arranged in a sequential
manner.

SUMMARY: TITLE:
These principles are inherently useful in selecting the
instructional media that complement learning.
Instructional media have flourished and have been
ubiquitously used among diverse learners. They have
literally inundated the educational
1 sphere due to their
unprecedented impact in the educative process.
They have not only made easy the teaching-learning
process but have become remarkably accessible in the
different domains in education.

TITLE:
Cautionary measures however, must be undertaken in the
selection of these materials. Impropriety in the selection
and usage will result in failure to meet the goals of the class
or the school.
1

The exigent application of these principles, therefore,

ensure choosing the appropriate instructional media for
teachers to leverage efficient multi-learning; and multi-
tasking of the students.
