( A BRIEF

DEFINE BMI:
• Body mass index is a ratio of weight/height.
• It is measured in kg/m2
• It actually determines the health status of body that is
underweight, normal, overweight & obese.
BMI RANGES:
BMI CALCULATIONS:
Q. Let suppose if a person has body weight of 70kg and height of 5.5 fts then determine
his BMI in kg/m2?
A. Height is given in fts so we have to convert fts in to m2.
There are three steps for the conversion of fts in meters.
1. Firstly convert fts in inches by multiplying 5.5 with 12.
because 1 ft=12 inches.
So, 5.5* 12=66 inches
2. Secondly convert inches in cm by multiplying the answer with 2.5.
Because 1 inch = 2.5 cm
So, 66 inches * 2.5 = 165 cm
3. Lastly convert cm in meters simply by dividing with 100.
Because 1 cm = 1/100 m
So, 165 cm / 100 = 1.65m
Now finally whole square 1.65 to get ans in m2.
1.65*1.65= 2.72 m2
BMI= 70/ 2.72 = 25.73Kg/m2
THE PERSON IS OVERWEIGHT.
BMI CALCULATIONS:
• If a person has body weight of 50kg and height of 60inches then
determine his BMI in kg/m2?
• . Height is given in inches so we have to convert inches in m2.
1. convert inches in cm by multiplying 60 inches with 2.5.
Because 1 inch = 2.5 cm
So, 60 inches * 2.5 = 150 cm
2. convert cm in meters simply by dividing with 100.
Because 1 cm = 1/100 m
So, 150 cm / 100 = 1.5m
Now finally whole square 1.375 to get answer in m2.
1.5*1.5= 2.25 m2
BMI= 50/2.25 = 22.22Kg/m2
THE PERSON IS NORMAL.
BMI CALCULATIONS:
• If a person has a body weight of 48kg and height of 166cm then
determine his BMI in kg/m2?
• Height is given in cm so we have to convert inches in m2.
convert cm in meters simply by dividing with 100.
Because 1 cm = 1/100 m
So, 166 cm / 100 = 1.66m
Now finally whole square 1.35 to get answer in m2.
1.45*1.45= 2.75 m2
BMI= 48/2.75 = 17.45Kg/m2
THE PERSON IS UNDERWEIGHT.
EXERCISE:
• Calculate the BMI of a person in kg/m2 whose body weight is
40 kg and height is 65inches. Also state that he is normal or
underweight or overweight?
• Calculate the BMI of a person in kg/m2 whose body weight is
60 kg and height is 150cm. Also state that he is normal or
underweight or overweight?
• Calculate the BMI of a person in kg/m2 whose body weight is
45 kg and height is 5fts. Also state that he is normal or
underweight or overweight?
• Calculate the BMI of a person in kg/m2 whose body weight is
75 kg and height is 5.2fts. Also state that he is normal or
underweight or overweight or obese?
