WIND FARMS

 A wind farm or wind park, also called a wind power station or wind power plant is a group of wind turbines
in the same location used to produce electricity.
 Wind farms vary in size from a small number of turbines to several hundred wind turbines covering an
extensive area. Wind farms can be either onshore or offshore.
 The 1,600MW Jaisalmer wind park is India's biggest wind farm. Developed by Suzlon Energy, the project
features a group of wind farms located in the Jaisalmer district of Rajasthan, India.

Doubly fed induction generator is a
wound rotor induction generator in
which rotor windings powered by
variable frequency, provided by
power converter via slip rings

DFIG BASED WIND TURBINES

 Wind turbines using a doubly-fed induction generator (DFIG)

consist of a wound rotor induction generator and an
AC/DC/AC IGBT-based PWM converter.
 The stator winding is connected directly to the 60 Hz grid
while the rotor is fed at variable frequency through the
AC/DC/AC converter.
 The DFIG technology allows extracting maximum energy
from the wind for low wind speeds by optimizing the turbine
speed, while minimizing mechanical stresses on the turbine
during gusts of wind.
DFIG WIND FARM SPECIFICATIONS

▰ 9 MW wind farm consisting of six 1.5 MW wind turbines.

▰ 25 kV distribution system
▰ 25 KV,10 MW three phase series RLC load.
▰ 120 kV grid ,30 km line, 25 kV feeder.
▰ the pitch angle is 8.7 deg.
▰ the generator speed is 1.2 pu.
▰ TESTING CONDITIONS:
>>a six-cycle 0.5 pu voltage drop is programmed at t=0.03s.
>>wind speed varied from 12 to 15 m/s @ 0.1secs step time.

RESULTS

▰ when there is fault created at the remote end, a voltage dip occurs at t=0.03s.
there is a increase in the rotor speed. The output power of the system also
changes, which then recovers after approximately 4 cycles.
▰ During the variation of wind speed, we can see that there is a change in the
output power and the rotor speed, which then recovers during later cycles.
