GLASS
What is External glazing?
• Simply put, external glazing is term used to describe
glass that is integral to the design of a building: It
involves large glass panels, which usually bear some
weight in the structure. External glazing can be used
to create huge glass installations with minimal
obstruction.

Where would External glazing be used?
4
There are many benefits to using structural glass within a building, and perhaps the most compelling is
• the increase of natural light in our domestic and professional spaces.
• Throughout our evolution, humans have relied on daylight to regulate and enhance our circadian rhythms, and it has become
clear that natural light is a vital part of our overall wellbeing.
• The time we spend in artificially lit or gloomy environments has a clear impact on our sleep quality, productivity and
happiness.
• Structural glazing can offer a greater coherence and connection between the natural world and our buildings, while still
protecting us from the elements.
• It allows sunlight to flood a home without any attendant annoyances that have previously hampered glass structures, such as
overheating and the subsequent loss of heat at night. In fact, advances in technology mean that insulation is actually one of
the great advantages of using structural glass.
Rather than creating a greenhouse-like effect, thermal glass technology exploits the “solar gain” which can make glass spaces
too warm to create a stable and comfortable ambient temperature which is maintained throughout variations in weather and
the time of day. This is energy efficient enough to result in savings on heating bills, while also enhances the interior
environment in a way which makes glass eminently practical as well as aesthetically stunning.

Properties of External Glazing:
1.More light, Better light: Optimized
Daylighting
redirects light rays to transmit up to 70%
daylight and substantially diffuse glare,
reducing the energy required for electrical
lighting and improving user comfort.

3. Transparency + Views /
User Comfort
External glazing glass can
be specified to provide
more or less visual
transparency as required by
the program or building
orientation. The geometry
and molecular makeup of
the proprietary , external
glazing glass insert diffuse
daylight to reduce glare,
further improving user
experience, comfort, and
productivity.
11
Self Clean : utilises UV light and rain to dissolve and
wash away any dirt on eternal glazing systems,
resulting in longer-lasting clean windows.
13
IQ Heated Glass: allows a fully integrated heating system by using double or
triple glazing that emits heat. Controlled electronically, it helps to prevent
condensation, allows greater energy efficiency and provides more light for the
building. It can be used for windows, glass roofs or skylights, conservatories, and
other components that make up external glazing systems.
Electrochrome: a Solar Control glazing that ranges in colour from clear to dark
blue, depending on the season or atmosphere. This product always remains
transparent and can improve energy efficiency and a regulated building
temperature, helping to maintain a regulated building temperature, reduce energy
costs and lower the building's carbon emissions
Light Emitting Glass: LED Glass is used to enhance individual architecture both
internally and externally. By utilising light and colour, this product can be used to
create different ambiences or to highlight particular features. It also retains
transparency when turned off.

Cost/Budget Considerations
Structural Glazing is one of the most cost effective contemporary solutions available.
Structural Glazing is typically 17% - 23% more cost effective than that of a Frameless Glazing equivalent and 20% -
25% more expensive than Framed Glass (Curtain Walling/Patent Glazing) solutions
