EPIC II spark control - Detection

mA Short 2-9

-kV

Sparks are detected from the

kV measurment samples , they
are continuosly analyzed for
slopes that indicates sparkover.
If found, a signal is given to the
Quenching function to perform
-kV proper action.
Spark sens. kV
A real spark shall on a
oscilloscope look like a spike on
the current (mA) and fast dip of
tension (kV)

This example shows Spark rate limit = 6 sparks per minute

Average time between sparks will be 60/6 = 10s
as long as precipitator voltage is limited by sparkovers.

IRMS= i12 + i22 - - - i642 [mA]

P= (u1• i1 + u2• i2 - - - u64• i 64) [kW]

Ps= (|u1• i1|+ |u2• i2|- - -|u64• i64|) [kVA]

Primary current IRMS = Primary Current (root mean square)

P = Active Power (from the mains)
PS = Apparent Power (from the mains)

EPIC-II does very accurate and sophisticated digital wave form sampling and calculations
at a speed of 32 times/ half period of T/R primary, secondary current and voltage, it is very
essential that the signals represent the actual field signal with good accuracy and that the
signals are free from distortion and transients.
