Ionic order
• The Ionic style is thinner and
more elegant.
• Its capital is decorated with a
scroll-like design (a volute).
• This style was found in eastern
Greece
• The Ionic order originated in the
mid-6th century BC.

The diameter of the base at the bottom was 1.375 times the diameter of the column.

Column –
Base (8)
• The height, of the base, is to be one-third of the thickness of the column.
• It is to be divides into four parts, The upper torus is to be one-fourth.
• The remaining three-fourths are to be equally divided so that one is The lower
torus and the other the scotia with its fillets.

Column – Consists of Base (8), Shaft (7) and capital (6)

7. Shaft

• Height of the Ionic columns are 8 to 10 times the diameter


• Flute – There are 24 flutes
• Fillet - Flat surface between the transverses.

Entablature (5)
The entablature is .2 times the height of the column. It has
three parts:
• a plain architrave divided into two, or more generally
three, bands known as Fascia, with a crowning
moulding.
• a frieze resting on it that may be richly sculptural
• a cornice
•Cyma Recta
•Cyma Reversa
•Capping the Egg and Dart moulding is the Corona.
•Above that there is the Egg and Dart moulding.
•Built up with dentils (like the closely-spaced ends of
joists)
