PROPORTIONS

• INDIRECTLY PROPORTIONAL
TWO QUANTITIES ARE SAID TO BE INDIRECTLY PROPORTION IF ANY ONE
AMONG TWO INCREASES, THE OTHER GETS DECREASED AND VICE VERSA.
EG.
IF A MAN CAN COMPLETE THE GIVEN TASK IN 10 DAYS
THEN 2 MEN CAN COMPLETE THE SAME TASK IN 10/2DAYS = 5 DAYS

GENERAL QUESTION
Q. If 3 men can do a piece of work in 18 days, how much time would it take to complete the
same task if 9 mens were employed.
a. 3 days
b. 6 days
c. 9 days
d. 2 days
GENERAL QUESTION
Q. If 3 men can do a piece of work in 18 days, how much time would it take to complete the
same task if 9 mens were employed.
Solution:
3 men can do a piece of work in 18 days
(men and days are inversely proportional i.e. if men gets decreased then it takes more days to
complete same task)
So,
One man can complete same work in (18 * 3) days = 54 days
(if men gets increased then it takes less days to complete same task)
So, 9 men can complete same task in (54 / 9) days = 6 days.
