WINNING CHARACTERISTICS
What is A Characteristics ??
Characteristics means individuality, uniqueness,
distinctiveness, matchlessness, exceptionality,
exclusivity.
Hence WINNING characteristics implies, means,
involves, entails - qualities, attributes, features
that are needed for WINNING.
WINNING what ??
It could be anything – be it studies, examination,
profession, business, life, sports – you name it.
2
WINNING CHARACTERISTICS
There are certain common traits, aspects, facets an
individual needs to acquire, gain, obtain, get hold of, get
hands on - to attain success in any / all walks of life. And
these are termed WINNING CHARECTERISTS.
The list is fairly long. Let us examine each one of these,
how relevant , pertinent, are these attributes.
Is there any veracity, genuineness, authenticity in the
listed qualities or are these a only a myth, a fable, a
parable??
The surprising and most interesting truth, fact is that
most of us know all these features, we might concur,
agree unhesitatingly.

WINNING CHARACTERISTICS
OPINION POLL:
Individual may vastly differ in the order and
importance of these attributes. But then it
remains to be seen, how much does one agree
or disagree with these qualities being essential
or non-essential for winning. Let us not go by
the order in which these are listed, instead, let
us confine ourselves , how true and relevant
are these, in one’s life to attain the goal.

WINNING CHARACTERISTICS
1. Unswerving integrity: In construction, a footing is sunk
into the ground which becomes the underlying
foundation of the building. It cannot move or bend and is
extremely strong. That footing supports the entire weight
& integrity of the building structure. In life, your integrity
values – your motives in life – are your footing that
supports the structure of life. It must be in alignment
with the structure (of your life) that it supports. It must
be unswerving.
A. Character is what we are; reputation is what others think
we are
B. Personality opens doors; character keeps them open
HONESTY IS THE BEST POLICY / SATYAMEV JAYATE.
5
WINNING CHARACTERISTICS
2. NO QUIT: Winners never quit. If today is a bad
day, that’s okay. Tomorrow is a new day and you
can begin again. Most of us do not remember
learning to walk, but we do know that we did not
quit trying. If you had given up, you wouldn't be
walking. You fell time and again while learning to
walk. All success is built on failures.
QUITTERS DON’T WIN,
WINNERS DON’T QUIT.
6
WINNING CHARACTERISTICS
3. Punctual: I might get some questions on
this one, but I strongly believe people
should be on time.  Not surprising, the
winners are there in the practice room
always on time, and actually are early,
already warming up.
TIME AND TIDE WAITS FOR NONE.
JO SOYA – SO KHOYA.

7
WINNING CHARACTERISTICS
4. Questioning for knowledge:
There is a BIG DIFFERENCE between
questioning for knowledge and questioning
for argument.  We understand what does
this mean. More often than naught, we
resort to questioning for the sake of
argument.   If you are questioning just to try
to prove a point then better you get lost!

8
WINNING CHARACTERISTICS
5. Do what’s right when no-one is
watching:
This is one of my favorite
definition of character that I use
often.  If you do what’s right
when you think no one is
watching, then you are a winner.
9
WINNING CHARACTERISTICS
6. A HEALTHY MIND LIVES IN A HEALTHY
BODY:
Winners strive to stay healthy. The
people who enjoy success understand
the importance of good health. They
protect their own health by being
proactive, exercising and watching what
they eat.
HEALTH IS WEALTH. 10
WINNING CHARACTERISTICS
7. SENSE OF HUMOR:
Winners have a sense of humor. Humor is an
automatic by-product of a positive attitude.
Winners can handle the serious side of life
yet are to laugh and share their enjoyment
with others. Humor shared with others is
not only fun, it's emotionally exciting and
uplifting.
LAUGHTER IS THE BEST MEDICINE.
11
WINNING CHARACTERISTICS
8. WILLINGNESS:
Successful people are willing to dig in,
do the home work and learn new
things. They’re just willing to do
whatever it takes to create the life
they want.
WHERE THERE IS A WILL, THERE IS WAY.

12
WINNING CHARACTERISTICS
9. OPEN:
Successful people are open to new
ideas. They don’t close themselves
“off” from information that might
help them.

13
WINNING CHARACTERISTICS
10. COURAGEOUS:
Often, successful people are risk-takers,
but more importantly they are
courageous. They tap into the courage
that lives deep in them and use it to
break ground, try new things and put
themselves out in front.
JO DAR GAYA, SAMJHO MAR GAYA.
14
WINNING CHARACTERISTICS
11. DECISIVE:
There’s an old adage that says be quick to
make a decision and slow to change it.
Successful people do just that. They don’t
vacillate or sit on the fence. They decide and
move forward. Indecisiveness will kill
momentum.
PRISONERS OF INDECISION.

15
WINNING CHARACTERISTICS
12. LOVE FOR LEARNING:
Successful people invest in themselves,
either through reading, attending seminars
or workshops. They know they don’t have all
the answers so they seek people that have
the answers they’re looking for.
KATRADHU KAIMANNALAVU, KALLADADU
ULAGALAVU.

16
WINNING CHARACTERISTICS
13. COMMITTED:
Commitment provides the fuel – the energy
– to keep moving forward. Successful people
know what they care about and commit
themselves on a deep level to get it.
HUM JAAN HAAR JAYENGEY,
PAR JUBAAN NAHI HARENGEY.
NAAN SOLRADA SEIVEN, SENJADA SOLVEN.

17
WINNING CHARACTERISTICS
14. PERSISTANT:
No such thing as “giving up” in a
successful person’s mind. They never
ever give up. As they say,
SUCCESS IS:
98% PERSEPIRATION, 2% INSPIRATION.
MUYARCHI UDAIYOR IGAZCHI ADAIYAR.
LAGEY RAHO MUNNA BHAI.
18
WINNING CHARACTERISTICS
15. Adaptable/Flexible: Simply said, successful
people go with the flow. Ride the wave. Rigidity is
the kiss of DEATH in creating anything you want.
Successful people have the ability to switch
course as needed. This allows them to stay
present to world around them, being more aware
of opportunities as they arise.
SAMAY KE SATH APNE KO BADAL DALO.
KAALATHIR-KERPA UNNAI MATRIK-KOL.

19
WINNING CHARACTERISTICS
16. CREATIVE:
We all have an innate sense to
create in our lives. Successful people
have learned to tap into their
creative spark and do so in a way
that enriches their lives and the
world around them.
20
WINNING CHARACTERISTICS
17. BALANCED:
The happiest and most successful
people usually lead well-balanced
lives. They take time for their
families and fun times. They
celebrate the whole of their lives,
not just parts of it.
21
WINNING CHARACTERISTICS
18. SPIRITUAL:
Often, successful people have a deep
commitment to their spiritual side. They
understand their life is so much more
and the source of their power comes
from a source deep within. They allow
their spirits to guide them.

22
WINNING CHARACTERISTICS
19. PURPOSEFUL:
Living a meaningful life starts with a
sense of purpose. Successful and
happy people have usually spent
time considering their unique
purpose in life and have taken steps
to fulfil that purpose.
23
WINNING CHARACTERISTICS
20. PHYSICAL AND MENTAL STAMINA:
Many people often assume that once a
person is successful, he will have more free
time and will work to their own hours.
However, contrary to popular belief, it is a
proven fact that successful individuals work
long hours for extended periods of time. And
to do so, they must be in good health and be
prepared for the physical and mental
challenges of entrepreneurship. 24
WINNING CHARACTERISTICS
21. WINNERS THINK POSITIVELY:
They face the day with the attitude to discover
what can be done instead of worrying about
what cannot be done. When roadblocks appear,
as they often do, winners will instantly draw
upon their positive attitude and determine how
to react constructively. It’s the attitude that is
brought to the table that will determine the
success or failure of any endeavor. Winners don’t
make excuses nor do they accept any excuses.
25
WINNING CHARACTERISTICS
22. WINNERS ARE WILLING TO ACCEPT
RESPONSIBILITY:
Personal responsibility comes into fore when
it comes to your own results. Winners will
take the initiative on any project because
they do what is needed to make sure the
project will get done. They do not shun
responsibility and do not hesitate to
acknowledge their mistakes and failures, so
that they can learn from these. 26
WINNING CHARACTERISTICS
23. PERSISENCE AND PERSEVERANCE:
As time progresses winner never looses his
passion to be the best. No matter the
accomplishments that is achieved, there is
always something more / else to achieve. They
know that growing is a natural progression of all
life forms. And since growing is a key to a better
and more meaningful life, winners will not stop
setting goals. They will persist and persevere all
through the life.
27
WINNING CHARACTERISTICS
The 4 C’s- confidence, competence,
communication, conceptualization: Successful
individuals are strong-minded, self-assured individuals
who take pride in their profession. They have
proficiency in their field of industry and possess strong
communication skills (verbal & written), especially
when it comes to selling their product or service. They
also freely exchange their ideas and opinions with
management team, board members, etc. Furthermore,
they have an impeccable skill for envisioning unique
novel ideas, can identify complex situations, and offer
quick solutions to existing problems.
28
WINNING CHARACTERISTICS
The 3 P’s- passion, persistence, and
pragmatism:
Successful individuals often demonstrate a
profound passion and a robust enthusiasm for their
profession, qualities that are highly regarded by
many as mandatory. In addition, they are quite
persistent individuals, especially when it comes to
bringing forth viable ideas and concepts. They are
pragmatic persons who have a realistic approach in
life, especially when it comes to their profession.
29
WINNING CHARACTERISTICS
The 2 F’s- focused and flexible: Another striking
attribute that successful individuals share, is their
focused mindset. They are aware of their mission
and they meticulously address what needs to be
done in order to succeed. They also have the
capability to adapt to different modifications
throughout, especially when it comes to strategy,
and are able to properly readjust in order to meet
those changes.
THERE IS NO SHORT CUT TO SUCCESS.
30
WINNING CHARACTERISTICS
A winner has an attitude of not
looking back or retreat.
"A hero is just like any other
ordinary individual except for
that he finds the strength to
persevere and endure in spite of
overwhelming obstacles.“
31
WINNING CHARACTERISTICS
A SHORT STORY:
Long time ago, there was a great General who was
faced with a situation to make a drastic decision
to ensure his success on the battlefield. He was
about to send his army on shore to face a
powerful enemy, whose men outnumbered his.
He loaded his soldiers on to the boats, and sailed
to face the enemies on shore. When they reached
the shore, he ordered to unload the soldiers and
cargoes. He then ordered for all the ships and
boats be burned.
32
WINNING CHARACTERISTICS
SHORT STORY CONTINUES:
Addressing his men before the battle, he
said, “You see the ships and boats going up
in smoke. That means that we cannot leave
these shores alive unless we win! We now,
have no choice – either we win, or we
perish.”
AND THEY WON!!!

33
WINNING CHARACTERISTICS
MORAL OF THE STORY:
Just like the General, we have to burn all our
bridges if we want to achieve success. There can
be no room for retreat and we must have an
attitude of, “Whatever it takes”, taking into
consideration that we can have anything we
desire provided we do not violate Universal Laws
and the rights of our fellow human beings. Do not
dwell on the past. Move forward with confidence
and we will surely see success, unexpected in
common hours.
34
WINNING CHARACTERISTICS
"THERE ARE NO BARRIERS THAT CANNOT BE
BRIDGED, EXCEPT THE ONES MEN CREATE IN
THEIR OWN MIND“.

THIS IS WHAT GREAT MEN DEFINE AS

A SHORT STORY ON ATTITUDE

WINNING CHARACTERISTICS
A SHORT STORY ON ATTITUDE:
4 Masons are at work, on the same Project, doing
the same identical job, i.e. laying the bricks
together and cementing it up with mortar.
• A passer by approaches the masons and poses
an identical question to all the 4.
• He asks the 1st mason: What are you doing ?
• The mason replies: Don’t ever ask that again. It
is a question of survival. If only me and my
family didn’t have a stomach to feed, I don’t
have to do this dirty job.

together and join them up with
cement. And precisely that is what I
am doing.

A SHORT STORY ON ATTITUDE:
• The man then approaches the 3rd

The mason says that he is constructing
a wall, which ultimately will become a
part of the building.
• The man then finally puts the same
question the 4th and the last mason.
• CAN YOU EVER GUESS WHAT THE
ANSWER WAS ???…..
38
WINNING CHARACTERISTICS
A SHORT STORY ON ATTITUDE:
• The Mason replies very proudly: Sir, I am contributing
towards creation of future leaders of my great nation.
• The questioner was dumb struck / dumb founded. How
the hell on earth, a simple earthly mason could ever be
creating a future leader for the nation!!!
• The mason continues: Sir, this wall which I am raising is
part of an upcoming GREAT UNIVERSITY. It is here, that
our future generation, the scholars, scientists,
economists, technocrats of our country are going to
shape up.
• And the mason was beaming full of enthusiasm, self
pride and proud of what he was doing. 39
WINNING CHARACTERISTICS
A SHORT STORY ON ATTITUDE:
• I suppose, this story gives an insight as
