WHAT IS SELF DIRECTION PRINCIPLE ?

Self-directed learning describes a process by which individuals take


the initiative, with or without the assistance of others, in diagnosing
their learning needs, formulating learning goals, identifying human and
material resources for learning, choosing and implementing
appropriate learning strategies, and evaluating learning outcomes.
HOW DOSE SELF DIRECTION LEARNING
WORK?
 Self directed Learning can be considered as learning by oneself (auto-
formation), as opposed to learning through the actions of others.

 The main benefits for Self Directed Learning are:


 To enhance the ability of learners to be self-determined in their
studies.
 To foster transformational learning.
 To promote emancipatory learning and social action as an integral
part of SDL.
How is Self directed learning Related to the
Learning process?
When students engage in self-directed learning, the learning paradigm shifts from a
teacher-centric approach to a student-centric approach. It helps students to
Become responsible and accountable for their decisions and actions with regard
to their learning.
SELF DIRECTED LEARNING PRACTICAL
CLASSROOM EXAMPLE
Project Activity:
Ask the students to set a statistical project about planets in the outer space.
1. Name the planets in order form nearest to the sun.
2. Tell the diameter of each planet.
3. Tell the distances between each planet and the sun.
4. Fill the data in table with the right labeling.
5. Use the WH questions to know exactly what you need to investigate.
