Road roller

Road roller
Road roller is an equipment or engineering vehicle used to
compact soil, waste material, gravel, concrete, asphalt in
the road construction and foundations etc. rollers are
also used at landfills or in agriculture.
Main aggregates:
1. Tractor
2. pneumatic wheel or drum roller
3. Vibratory mechanism
4. Hydraulic system for transmission system and vibratory
mechanism.
Components of road roller
Components of road roller
Components of Walk behind vibratory roller
Types of road rollers
1. Towed vibratory roller
a. Smooth drum
b. Pad foot drum
2. Tandem vibratory rollers:
c. Single drum vibrating
d. Both drum vibratory
3. Front pad foot vibratory drum with rear
rubber tread tires( drum drive)
Types of road rollers
4. Single smooth drum vibratory compactor with
rear rubber tread tires
5. Roller with rubber coated vibrating drum
6. Tandem static roller
7. Pneumatic tyre roller ( all smooth tyres)
8. Three wheeler static roller
9. Combination rollers ( vibratory smooth drum
in front and smooth pneumatic tyres at rear)
Types of road roller
10. tamping rollers
a. Self propelled static with pad foot drums on
all wheels
b. Vibrating tampers
c. Vibratory plate compactor
11. Walk behind vibratory rollers
d. Single drum vibratory rollers
e. Double drum vibratory rollers

Pneumatic tire roller
• The mechanical tandem pneumatic tire roller
is high quality compaction equipment for high-
class highway, airport, municipal road and
industrial ground, especially for final
compaction of asphalt surface on high-class
highway.

Walk behind vibratory roller
Walk behind vibratory roller
Walk behind vibratory roller
• This walk-behind vibratory roller is specially
designed to compacting and maintaining
various roads in narrow areas conditions, such
as foundation of groove wider than 0.8m,
building construction, backfilling for pipeline,
gymnasium ground pipeline channel and
drainage trench etc.
Impact compactor
Application road rollers
1. Compaction of highway shoulder, trenches
2. Road widening works, road repair works
3. Earth /rock damp construction, site preparation,
airports, bridge, rail road track beds etc
4. Compaction of bituminous road bases, binder and
road courses
5. Compaction of asphalt and base course
6. Compaction of soil, trench back fill areas of
restricted access etc.
Vibrating mechanism
• Vibration is typically produced by a free-
spinning hydrostatic motor inside the drum
to whose shaft an eccentric weight has
been attached. Some rollers have a
second weight that can be rotated relative
to the main weight, to adjust the vibration
amplitude and thus the compacting force.
Classification of compaction equipment
1. Static compaction equipment
2. Vibratory compaction equipment
Types of static compaction equipment
a. Towed static smooth compactors
b. Static sheep foot or pad foot compactors (towed or
self propelled)
c. Static three wheel self-propelled compactors
d. Static tandem compactors
e. Three axle static compactors
Types of vibratory compaction equipment

a. Tandem vibratory compactor

b. Towed vibratory compactors
c. Towed sheep foot and tamping foot vibratory
compactors
d. Self propelled vibratory compactors
e. Hand guided vibratory compactors
