What is the Part 3 MRCOG
Clinical Assessment?

• Assessment of candidates’ ability to apply core


clinical skills in the context of the skills, knowledge,
attitudes and competencies as defined in the Part 2
MRCOG curriculum.

• Five core skill domains:


– Patient safety
– Communicating with patients and families
– Communicating with colleagues
– Information gathering
– Applied clinical knowledge

Each Task will assess a number of these domains.

Task Set up

• Cubicle for each task


• Use of trained actors/actresses
• Clinical examiner every task
• 4 tasks have a trained lay examiner
What is involved in a Part 3
‘task’?
A Part 3 MRCOG task could involve one of the
following:
• An interaction with a simulated patient (and/or
their family)
• An interaction with a simulated colleague
• A structured discussion around a particular case or
issue
What will examiners assess?

Clinical examiners
• Present on every task
• Up to 4 of the 5 domains (only one “communication”)
Lay examiners
• Will feature on 4 of the 14 tasks alongside Clinical
Examiners
• Assessing the domains of Communication, Patient
Safety and Information Gathering from the
perspective of the patient
