Ethanol from Lignocellulosic Biomass

By
Dr Sammer Fatima
Conti…
• lignocellulosic biomass includes materials such as
1. Agricultural residues (corn stover, crop straws,
husks and bagasse).
2. Herbaceous crops (alfalfa, switchgrass),
3. Short rotation woody crops.(Eucalyptus)
4. Forestry residues
5. Waste paper
6. Other wastes (municipal and industrial).
Formation of ethanol
• Ethanol from lignocellulosic biomass is
produced mainly via biochemical process.
• That occur in three major steps such as
 Pretreatment
 Enzymatic hydrolysis
 Fermentation.
