Ethics in information technology
Overview
• Ethics is very important in the field of information technology. Since the use of IT
is increasing at the present era, The crime related to information technology is
increasing such as, identity theft, inaccuracy of data, piracy etc. These type of
crime can create so much harm of our social life. To get rid of these unexpected
occurrence, practicing of ethics is so important. Without practicing ethics in
information technology, many unexpected occurrence such as, disclosing
confidential information of people, stealing somebody’s identity etc can be
happen which can destroy the discipline of society as well as human life.
International societies and ethics
• All leading IT professional societies of the world such as the ACM, the British
Computer Society, the IEEE and others have developed their own ethical
principles and insist that their members should follow to these principles. The
ACM code contains eight principles made by, professional software engineers;
including practitioners, educators, managers, supervisors and policy makers, as
well as trainees and students of the profession. The IEEE Computer Society,
which have nearly 100K members, founded in 1946 has developed many ethical
principles for various disciplines. The purpose of making these principles is to
minimize the potential negative consequences of computing systems, including
threats to health and safety.

• 3. Be honest and trustworthy for any work.
• 4. Honour property rights including copyrights.

• 5. I must try to avoid harm in case of any work.
