Materials:
⊳ Canvas
⊳ Oil Paints
⊳ Brushes

Claude Monet was known for his amazing oil paintings. When paint with oil
paints it is much different than acrylic. Oil paint takes a lot longer to dry
than others, so that gives the painter a chance to let dry & come back the
next day and pick up exactly where they left off. The oil paint also blends
very well. Oil paint is also a little bit more complex to use than other paints
as well.

Why I chose this one:
Besides the fact that Post De l’Europe is a beacutiful amaizng
piece of art… When on the search for a piece of artwork this one
really caught my eye, and not just because it is a great painting
but also because of the meaning beind it.
This piece of art is a beautiful representation of how the world has
evolved over time and it really capture the way the world
modernized itself over the years.
Subject Of the Art:
When you look at this work of art you see several things like: A bridge, a
train, a city in the background, a few people, the railways, and foggy
smoke. I think that when he painted this picture, he wanted to emphasize
the things that were modernizing the world. I also think a main thing in
this picture is the railways because they opened up a lot for the world at
that time. He wants to show how the world has changed over the years.

6
The Context:
Claude Monet was not paid to paint this painting,
instead he was doing to express modernizing in the city
through his eyes. I do not know of any other artist that
were working on the same type of art. The railway was
starting to modernize the industries and the way they
ran. So Monet decided to express his feelings/outlook
of the change through art.

7
The Content:
I think that the artist is trying to communicating a message of how
fast/ how much things change over time. I also feel like there is a
message behind this work of art… and that Monet is trying to tell
the audience that the changing of the times into modern times. He
made this work of art for you to critique it the way you would like.

8
The Painting Style/ Time Period:

The painting took place during the time period of 1877!

The painting style he used was oil paint on canvas and impressionism

9
Description of the Art:
When looking at this piece of art there is several different
things you notice… the steam/smog that covers the city, the
dark/gloomy colors used to create this picture, the
train/railway running under the bridge, and the industrial
buildings the bridge leads to.

Dimensions: 64 cm x 81cm
25 in. x 32 in.

10
Story Behind The Art:
Yes… Monet did create more works of art like this one.
The painting was a part of a 12-piece series.
La Gare Saint Lazare : Monet’s Pont de l’Europe is the 5th
painting in the series that Monet painted.

I am going to put a couple of other paintings from that series on the next
slide.
