Tyres

By – Sunny Anand
Introduction
 Tyreis a outer rubber casing which protects the wheel
and gives the cushion to the automobile. It consists of
outer cover i.e. tyre proper and tube inside.
 The tyre-tube assembly is mounted over the wheel rim
and air inside the tube carries entire load and provides
cushion.
Why do I like it…?
 Transport
 Decreases the regular wear & tear of Automobile
 Long life
 Good road grip for traction, cornering, acceleration and
braking.
What I don’t like about it
 Exploding tube of tyre

Solution –

 Tubeless Tyres
Removable feature-

Tube

Why ?
 To solve the problem of puncture
 Tyre burst
Top 5 features of tyres for the next release
Spherical tyre
1. Puncture and skidding problem gone.
2. Able to connect with other vehicles, as well as infrastructure,
traffic and mobility management systems.
3. Can adapt itself according to weather conditions.
• Airless Tyres -
 Made using biodegradable materials
 puncture-free
 equipped with sensors
• Superelastic Tyre

 alternativeto our ordinary air-filled tyres.

 composed of shape memory alloys
 eliminates the possibility of puncture failures
Oxygene tyre -
 filled
with living moss
 absorbs moisture from the road, before converting it into
oxygen through photosynthesis.
 generates electricity by converting carbon dioxide into
oxygen
• Air-free tyre

 made from thermoplastic resin

 fully recyclable
 uses a structure of spokes that stretch along the inner sides
of tyres to support the user's weight.
EVOLUTION OF TYRES:-
 The earliest tires were bands of leather, then iron (later steel) placed on
wooden wheels used on carts and wagons.
 The first practical pneumatic tire was made in 1888, by Scottish
named John Boyd Dunlop.
 Synthetic rubbers were invented in the laboratories of Bayer in the 1920s.
IDEA GENERATION
 Tyre that can charge it’s own car
 The tire will collect heat in multiple ways, primarily from the friction heat,
but also the heat generated by tire flex.
 The most interesting thing about these tires is that they can still collect heat
while not moving.
 Small patches on the tire’s thermo-piezoelectric layer can collect heat from
the sun on a hot day.
CONT.
 A piezoelectric generator converts mechanical energy into electricity and
can be used in electric vehicles segments.
 Some of the Piezoelectric materials are quartz, some ceramics, a few kinds
of salt.
IDEA SCREENING
 Unproven technology.
 Can help to solve the problem of range & charging.
 This tyre is likely to spend a few more years in development before coming
anywhere near production.
 Initial unit cost will be high until economy of scale achieved.
CONCEPT DEVELOPMENT AND TESTING

 To equip high end electric car with this tyre at its introduction and growth
phase of this product.(to target high end customer at first )
 At maturity phase new variants of this tyre will be launched that will target
customers with different economic background.
