PETRONAS TOWERS

KUALA LUMPUR-MALASIA

STUDENT: MILADY FAJARDO

NINTH SEMESTER
CIVIL ENGINEERING
HISTORY
The towers honor Malaysia's Muslim heritage.
The base was initially in the shape of the Star
of Solomon (eight-pointed star).
the architect Pelli used an Islamic geometric
design in his plant by interlocking two squares
of gradually decreasing size at the top
which is based on a very traditional motif in
Islamic culture: to the eight points he added
protruding reinforcing lobes with what is
achieved an eight-pointed star including circles
(and with this a twelve-pointed star) at each
intersection.
The Petronas Towers, located in Kuala
Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia, were the
tallest buildings in the world between
1998 and 2004.
They were designed by the Argentine
architect César Pelli and finished in 1998,
with 88 floors.
Construction of the towers began in 1992.
The construction materials of the facade
were concrete, steel, aluminum and glass.
