PROJECT GUIDE:
Mr.M.Manojkumar,B.E.,M.E.,(assistant professor)
ABSTRACT
• The main aim of this project is to design and analyze the RCC structure of
a theatre building using STAAD Pro. The total area of this project is 990 sq
m and the building area is to be 486 sq m as per NBC considerations. The
project is proposed to be constructed at MARAIMALAINAGAR.
• The theatre is capable of accommodating 352 people. The Roof height of
the theatre is 9 meters. The acoustic loading are considered as per IS
2526:1963.
• The design methods used are limit state conforming to IS codes. The
design is given special importance to satisfy the various structural
requirements. The design of grid slab can promote economy,
convenience, comfort and can compete needs and priorities. This project
involves the designing of a closed air theatre.

INTRODUCTION
• Now-a-days people movie towards a well comfort and affordable area to spend their
leisure time. One of the best entertainment places is cinema theatre. They need a well
comfort space to watch films on other hand the cinema theatre should accommodate
more and more people for economic purpose. The cinema theatre is designed for
maximum comfort and to accommodate more people. It provides service for
economically low-income people to share their views. It also provides separate bike and
car parking facilities. It provides food court inside the cinema hall to rejoice the people.
• The duty of a civil engineer is not only to design the building but also to design the
aspect of aesthetic appearance and other decorations. This project involves the design
and analysis of a theatre building. Theatre is a movie park which provides entertainment
and it remains as a main attraction for the people to hang out. Theatre is of three types
they are
• 1. Open air theatre
• 2. Closed air theatre
• 3. Opera.
• In project work framed structure is analyzed and designed by using STADD pro version
8.0 and LIMIT STATE DESIGN methodology.

SPECIFICATIONS
• Excavation shall be to the exact length, width, depth. This shall include rock boulders
slag chalk slate hard mics shish etc…Which the trenches excavated with or without
blasting or could be excavated with in the trenches during the process of work from
whatever causes shall be baled of pumped out.
• A plinth beam of 300x300 mm is provided for all the walls in order to avoid the unequal
settlement and the dampness.
• Cement shall comply in every respected with the requirement of IS 269 and otherwise
specified ordinary Portland cement shall confirm to
• IS 383. It shall pass through 4.75mm test sieve , leaving residue not more than 5% Shall
consist of crushed of broken stone 95% of which shall be retained on 4.75mm test sieve.
• The building is designed as a shear wall structure. The walls are reinforced with cement
concrete inside whereas brickwork outside the thickness of inner wall 300mm and outer
brick wall 230mm. The height of the ceiling is 10m.
• Flooring is done with base pcc 1:4:8 150mm thick and with tile flooring 10mm thickness.
• Mix for cement mortar shall be specified in the respective items or work gauge boxes for
sand such dimensions that one complete bag of cement containing 50 kg of cement forms
one unit the sand shall be free from clay shale loan alkali and organic matter and of sound
hard clean and durable particles and be approved by the engineer.

CALCULATIONS FOR SLAB AND BEAM
RANKINE GRASHOFF METHOD: (APPROXIMATE METHOD)
DATA:
Size of grid=15m × 30m
Spacing of ribs= 1.5m c/c
Concrete= M-25 grade
Steel= Fe415 HYSD bars
DIMENSIONS OF SLAB AND BEAM:
Adopt thickness of slab= 100mm
Depth of ribs based on [span/depth] = 20
Depth of ribs= (span/20)
= (15*10^3/20)
=750mm
Width of rib = 200mm
Adopt overall depth of ribs = 750mm
Width of rib = 200mm
Adopt overall depth of ribs = 750mm
LOADS
Weight of slab = thickness of slab × τ = 0.1 × 24 = 2.4 kN/m2
Total load on slab = Thickness of slab × lx × ly× c
= 0.1 × 15 × 30 × 24 = 1080 kN
Total weight of beam (x-direction) = nx× Weight of slab × lx
= 11 × 2.4 × 15
= 396 KN
Total weight of beam (y-direction) = ny × weight of slab × ly
= 21 × 2.4 × 30
= 1512 KN
Total weight of floor finish = depth of rib × lx × ly = 0.75 × 15 × 30
= 337.50kN
Total live load = 1.5 × 15 × 30
= 675 KN
Total dead load and live load = (1080 + 396 + 1512 + 337.5 + 675)
=4000.50 KN
Load per m2 ‘q’= (total live load and dead load / lxly )
= (4000.5/15×30) =8.89 KN/m2
Comparison of maximum moments in grids:
The moments are metre width computed by rigorous and
approximate methods are calculated
The approximate method underestimates the bending moments
developed in the x-direction and y-direction, to the extent of 17% and
21% respectively. The moments are very much under-estimated in the
long span direction.
