INTRODUCTION
The internet in India is growing rapidly. It
has given rise to new opportunities in every
field we can think of – be it entertainment,
business, sports or education.
 There are two sides to a coin. Internet also has
its own disadvantages. One of the major
disadvantages is Cyber crime – illegal activity
committed on the internet. Computers today
are being misused for illegal activities like e-
mail espionage, credit card fraud, software
piracy and so on, which invade our privacy and
offend our senses.
Defining Cyber Crime
It’s an unlawful act where in the computer
is either a tool or a target or both.

Acts that are punishable by the

Information Technology Act.

Cyber crimes can be basically divided into 3
major categories:

various crimes like transmission of child-
pornography, harassment of any one with the use of
a computer such as e-mail. The trafficking,
distribution, posting, and dissemination of obscene
material including pornography , constitutes one of
the most important Cybercrimes known today.

(destruction of others' property),
transmission of harmful programs,
unauthorized trespassing through cyber
space, unauthorized possession of computer
information.
THIRD CATEGORY

conclusion
Capacity of human mind is fathomless. It is not
possible to eliminate cyber crime from the cyber space. It
is quite possible to check them. History is the witness that
no legislation has succeeded in totally eliminating crime
from the globe. The only possible step is to make people
aware of their rights and duties (to report crime as a
collective duty towards the society) .
within the law enforcement agencies, a set of
rules must be developed to address the various
categories of computer crime.

As such, investigators will know what and

which materials to search and seize, the
electronic evidence to recover, and the chain of
custody to maintain .
