INTRODUCTION
One of the past limitations of email is that it was restricted
to text. For some time, there has been a recognised need to
be able to send binary data (ie. graphics, word processor and
spreadsheet files). Email containing types of data other than
text is known as multimedia email.
Several solutions have been devised to allow transfer of
non-textual information using email but some of these
depend on the same software being employed at both the
sending and receiving system, or conversion software
available on the receiving system. Most of these ad hoc
solutions were based on encoding.
.
VOICE MESSAGING
 Voice messaging is a computerized method of non real-time sending
and receiving of private voice messages. It is an application where
voice messages are sent by one person, and then recorded and stored
on the recipient's voice messaging mailbox system. The message is
retrieved by the recipient for later listening. These messages are
received using touch tone phone commands that includes cell phones.
The sender places a call and leaves a voice message. The receiver of
the call retrieves the message by calling into the system and entering
a digital code. The sender can even send a message to multiple
people at one time. Voice-messaging systems allow users to retrieve
messages from anywhere in the world. Voice messaging providers
use an IP-based structure that consists of a message store and
directory.
VIDEO MESSAGING
 Video messaging is much like text messaging, except you only include
a video. A video messaging system provides access to video messages
using a network provided by the video message service provider. Users
retrieve video messages that are stored in a video file in the server
system. Users can retrieve these messages from anywhere in the world.
The video streaming server stores video message files posted to the
video message system. The video message is sent to a user and the
recipient accesses the message that is stored in their file. The sender
will record a brief video message and then send the message to a
wireless phone or any email address. The receiver will access the
message through their provider's account. Depending on the video
messaging provider's services, recipients of video mail may not need
an account to view or reply.
MIME
 MIME is a standard developed as a set of extensions to SMTP
- the standard email protocol in use on Internet. Basically, a set
of extensions has been defined which state how different types
of data are to be encoded as text and included in the message.
A separator is defined in the header and this is used to separate
different types of data. A header line is then included at the
start of each section which describes the type of data in the
following section. MIME can use various types of encoding,
but the one normally used for binary files is base64.
This approach has the advantage of allowing multimedia
mail to be carried using existing email services without
modification. MIME multimedia mail is constructed and
displayed by suitable user interfaces. If such mail is
received and read using a non-MIME user interface, any
encoded sections of the message are displayed as text and
can be extracted and converted using suitable programs.
MIME is supported by many packages, for example
recent versions of Pegasus, Eudora, the Microsoft
exchange client on Windows 95 and some versions of
elm and pine on Unix.
OBJECTIVE
 Sophisticated communication systems that
allow us to contact people any time and any
place
 Popular communication mode for individuals
and business users
 Video and voice messaging allows business
people to maintain contact with their
colleagues and customers
METHODOLOGY
 Voice Recorder
• Reads the analog voice signal supplied at the
microphone port of the computer, converted to a
basic binary code by the ADC (Analog to Digital
Converter) built into the computer system.
• Changes this binary input kept in the input buffer to
a file format like .au or .wav.
• Prompts the user whether or not he wants to store
the buffered data to a sound file with .au or .wav
file. If the user says yes, the sound file is created.
 Sound Files Database
• All the pre – recorded voice samples are assembled
here in form of .au or .wav files only. For any kind
of an interactions with these files, proper file
handling techniques are followed like data
buffering, securities and data channeling.
 Web Camera Video Capture
 SMTP to transfer stored audio and video
Technologies to be used
 Video recording with web cam

 Voice Recording with Microsoft

 SMTP for sending mail

 Integration of video and audio with mailing

system
CHALLANGES
 ACCQUIRING AND MAINTAINING SOUND FILE
DATABASE.

 WORKING UPON VOICE RECORDER IMPLEMENTATION.

 APPLYING SMTP TO TRANSFER AUDIO AND VIDEO.

 EMBEDDING VIDEO RECORDING FACILITY AT FRONT

END.

 INTEGRATION OF AUDIO AND VIDEO WITH MAILING

SYSTEM.
APPLICATIONS
 Useful tool for uneducated persons specially
in rural areas.
 With the help of this technology they can send
audio messages.
 With the help of this technology one can send
video in mails
 Organizing information (e.g., for indexing
databases of images and image sequences).
