STONE TILES
 Stone tiles are made by slicing
boulders and slabs of rock into
thin squares or rectangles.
 The appearance of stone varies
from tile to tile due to veining,
natural imperfections, and even
fossils.
 Tile or stone flooring is set in
grout. Grout is available in
many colors and is selected to
blend or contrast with the
flooring material.
TYPES OF STONE FLOORING
 Slate:
A rustic classic available in geometric pieces
and irregular shapes, slate is usually found in
dark gray, soft red, and medium green.
TYPES OF STONE FLOORING
 Granite:
With hundreds of available varieties, this in-
demand stone can be flamed for slip-resistant
texture in busy kitchens and bathrooms.
 Over 200 colors.
TYPES OF STONE FLOORING
 Marble:
This porous stone is a
sophisticated choice for
formal spaces but is easily
scratched.
 Slabs or tiles come in many
colors, based on where they
were quarried.
 Some varieties of marble are
harder and more stain-
resistant than others.
HARD TILES
 CERAMIC TILES:
Ceramic tile is made up of
sand, natural products, and
clays and once it has been
moulded into shape they are
then fired in a kiln.  When
making ceramic tiles they
can either be glazed or
unglazed, but the majority of
homeowners have glazed
ceramic tiles in their home.
HARD TILES
 MOASIC TILES: A type of tile made from
different colored clays forming a variegated pattern;
(also) any of the small tiles or tesserae from which a
mosaic design is formed.
 3’’,4’’& 6’’ (Square form)
 3’’X6’’, 4’’X8’’ (Rectangle form)
HARD TILES
 QUARRY TILE: It is a building construction material,
usually 1 ⁄2 to 3 ⁄4 inch (13 to 19 mm) thick, made by the
extrusion process from natural clay or shale's.
 Quarry tile is manufactured from clay in a manner
similar to bricks. It is shaped from clay, and fired at a
high temperature, ~2,000 F.
HARD TILES
 PAVERS: A paver is a paving stone, tile,
brick or brick-like piece of concrete commonly
used as exterior flooring.
HARD TILES
 TERRAZO: composite material, poured in place or
precast used for floor and wall treatments.
 Consists of chips of marble, quartz, granite, glass, or other
suitable material, poured with a cementations binder (for
chemical binding), polymeric (for physical binding), or a
combination of both.
TERRAZO TILES

TYPES OF TERRAZZO:
 Sand cushion terrazzo:
 13mm or ½’’
 16mm or 5/8’’
 Installed over reinforced mortar under bed.

 Thinset terrazzo:
 ¼’’ or ½’’ ( 6 to 13 mm)
 It is placed over a wood, metal/concrete sub floor.
TERRAZO TILES
 Monolithic terrazzo:
 13mm / ½’’
 It is laid over a rough finished concrete slab.
 Bonded terrazzo:
 ½’’ or 13mm
 It is bonded to a rough cement concrete slab.
HARD TILES
 Resilient Flooring: Unlike ceramic and stone tiles,
which are made of minerals, resilient flooring is
made of materials that have some elasticity, giving
the flooring a degree of flexibility called resilience.
 Performance surfaces used for dance or athletics are
usually made of wood or resilient flooring.
SOFT FLOOR
 CARPET TILES: Carpet is a
soft floor covering made of
bound carpet fibers or stapled
fibers.
 Carpeting refers to wall-to-wall
coverage, whereas a rug is
simply used to cover a space.
 This type of flooring is typically
used indoors and can be used in
both high and low traffic areas.
 It typically lasts for 15-18 years
before it needs to be replace.
