LATEST TREND IN

INDIAN
AUTOMOBILE SECTOR

BY:- PISTON GROUP

FM COURSE SRL NO.-34
INTRODUCTION
India is home to a vibrant automobile of more than 40 million
vehicles. INDIA is one of the few countries which saw
growing passenger car sales during last couple of years.

It is believed this upward trend will be sustained in the

foreseeable future due to a strong domestic market and
increased thrust on exports.

The automotive industry is one of the key drivers of India’s
economy, accounting for around 4 percent of India’s GDP
and over 200,000 jobs.

V-TEC ENGINE

• Variable valve timing and lift electronic control

– Valve open nice and wide at higher RPM’s

– Open less at low RPM’s

– Two cam lobes each for two inlet & exhaust valves.

– Helps in achieving optimum fuel economy vis-à-vis

HYBRID VEHICLE

 Any vehicle is a hybrid when it combines

two or more sources of power
 Evolution
Problem with gas powered cars

Electric cars limitations

CONCEPT

 No need to plug in for recharge

 Two sources for recharging the battery

 Regenerative braking

 Smaller engine

CONFIGURATION
HYBRID
EFFICIENCY
Tricks used by hybrid
• Recover energy and store in battery

• Does not always rely on gasoline engine and

has a alternative power source
• Advanced aerodynamics

• Low rolling – resistance tyre

• Light weight material

ADVANTAGES OF HYBRID
VEHICLES

 More environmentally friendly (less

emissions).
 Fuel efficient (the HEV is able to operate
approximately two times more efficiently than
conventional vehicles).
 Prices are competitive with normal gasoline
powered cars, (off-set by overall fuel savings
and incentives).
ADVANTAGES OF HYBRID VEHICLES
 Uses the kinetic energy of the vehicle to generate electricity which can
then be stored in the battery for later use.

 Engines can be reduced in size, because they are sized to accommodate

average load, and not peak load.

 The big benefit of hybrid electric technology is that the gasoline engine
and electric motor are each used for what they do best. The gas engine
allows for long range on a high-density power source (gasoline), while the
electric motor allows efficient capturing and reusing of "excess" energy.

What is Automatic Transmission?
 Device which changes gear ratios automatically

 Deliver maximum efficiency

 Difference between automatic and manual

transmission
 Easier to drive because they do not have a clutch
pedal or gearshift lever
Automatic Transmission

AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION CAN BE ACHIEVED

BY TWO METHODS :-

1.BY USING PLANETARY GEARs

2.CONTINUOUS VARIABLE TRANSMISSION(CVT)
Planetary gear
AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION COMPONENTS

(1)THE TORQUE CONVERTER :- Which acts like a

clutch to allow the vehicle to come to a stop in
gear while the Engine is still running.
(2)PLANETARY GEAR SETS :- Which are the
mechanical system that provide the various
forward gear ratio a well as reverse.
(3)HYDRAULIC CONTROL SYSTEM :- Which uses a
special transmission fluid sent under pressure
by an oil pump, through the valve body to
control the clutches and the bands, in order to
control the planetary gear sets.

Turbo charger?
• A Turbo Charger is basically a device that uses
exhaust gases produced by the engine to blow air
back into the engine.
• It is mounted directly to the exhaust manifold, where
exhaust gases pass over a turbine impeller that is
attached to a short shaft. On the other side of this
shaft is a compressor turbine, which pulls out side
air in through the air filter and blows it into the intake
manifold.
• The energy from the expelled exhaust gases, which
would normally be wasted on a engine,is being used
to pump air back into the engine.
AIR BAG
AIR BAGS
Air bags are inflatable cushions built into
the steering wheel or dashboard and other
places in a vehicle
It slows the occupant deceleration by
deflating at control rate.
It prevents the occupants head and chest
from striking the steering wheel,
dashboard or top of windscreen.
Sensor in the vehicle detects strong
front end collisions, it sends an electric
current to a wire.
Wire heats up and inflator undergoes a
chemical reaction, producing the gas that
rapidly inflates the bag.
