protect it from being damaged or destroyed.
Challenges of preservation

■ Lack of trained personnel:

■ Lack of preservation and conservation policy in libraries
■ Harsh environmental condition in the tropical zone
■ Little awareness of the importance of preservation and conservation among
information professionals e Inadequate infrastructure
■ Lack of equipment needed for preservation and conservation of ibrary materials.
■ Lack of competent manpower in preservation and conservation of library
material.
• Frequent power failure
• Lack of effective sanctions among librarians
• Administrative bureaucracy
• Inadequate infrastructure
• Inadequate funding of the library
• Lack of suitable and appropriate equipments
• Lack of facilities
• Shortage of library staff and skilled manpower
• Financial problems & insufficient fund
Lack of trained personnel:

employees are likely to
experience poor job performance
and increased levels of work-
related stress.
Lack of preservation and conservation
policy in libraries:

There is no written
policy on preservation
and conservation in
nearly all libraries.
Harsh environmental condition in the
tropical zone:

The area may be envisaged as a hot,

moist band around the equator, typified
by little seasonal change of temperature
which can damage the library material.
Little awareness of the importance of
preservation and conservation among
information professionals Inadequate
infrastructure:

Awareness is important to increase

enthusiasm and support, stimulate self-
mobilisation and action, and mobilise
local knowledge and resources.
Lack of equipment needed for preservation
and conservation of library materials:

Lack of suitable or inadequate

equipments and materials
contributes significantly to the present
poor status of preservation and
conservation of information
materials

information resources is a specialized
field of knowledge that requires
information professionals who
understand the physical and chemical
nature of the materials in their librar
Frequent power failure:

Frequently power failure will

harmful for digital material and it
causes short circuit.
Administrative bureaucracy:

The existence of complex rules and

procedures that must be followed to
get something done. Any large

ensuring that one part of the
organization does not operate out of
step with another.

spanning from power generating set,
computer, Internet facilities,photocopier,
scanner, purpose-built library building,
furniture and fittings, vehicle among
others to keep pace with developments in
the information profession and
advancements in technology in the
delivery of information services.

The decrease in library

funding inevitably meant a
decrease in services and,
almost as often, a cut in
library staff either through
lay-offs or by closing
positions left vacant.

equipment:

Without suitable equipment

caring of material very
difficult.We need appreciate
mechine and instruments to
manage things.

In library we have proper

arrangements of selves,
computers, furniture and
staff. Without facilities we
can’t manage library.

may affected facilities and
working situation of any

fund:

Finance problems may cause lack

of facilities,materials, furniture,
