OBJECTIVES

At the end of the module, I can:

1. Differentiate the various systems and units of measurements.

2. Explain the standards of measurements for length, mass, and time.

3. Solve measurement problems involving conversion of units.

4. Express measurements in scientific notation.

5. Differentiate accuracy from precision.

6. Differentiate random errors from systematic errors.

SYSTEMS OF MEASUREMENTS

1. ENGLISH (BRITISH SYSTEM) – Comprises units such as pound (lb) for force, yard for length,
and

ounce for volume.

2. METRIC SYSTEM – Constitutes units based on powers of 10, which makes it the preferred

system to be used in science. The examples of metric system of units are: kilometer (km),

milligram (mg), millimeter (mm), etc.
