GALLSTONE DISEASE

Is the most common disorder affecting the

biliary system, the body's system of
transporting bile. Gallstones are solid, pebble-
like masses that form in the gallbladder or the
biliary tract (the ducts leading from the liver
to the small intestine).
Symptoms of Gallstone
Sudden and rapidly intensifying pain in
the upper right portion of your abdomen.
Sudden and rapidly intensifying pain in
the center of your abdomen, just below
your breastbone.
Back pain between your shoulder blades.
Pain in your right shoulder.
 vomiting
Causing Factors
Too much cholesterol in your bile
Having too much cholesterol in your bile can lead to yellow cholesterol
stones. These hard stones may develop if your liver makes more cholesterol
than your bile can dissolve.
Too much bilirubin in your bile
Bilirubin is a chemical produced when your liver destroys old red blood
cells. Some conditions, such as liver damage and certain blood disorders,
cause your liver to produce more bilirubin than it should. Pigment gallstones
form when your gallbladder can’t break down the excess bilirubin. These
hard stones are often dark brown or black.

Concentrated bile due to a full gallbladder

Your gallbladder needs to empty its bile to be healthy and to function
properly. If it fails to empty its bile content, the bile becomes overly
concentrated, which causes stones to form.
RECOMMENDED FOOD
For a healthy gallbladder, incorporate the
following foods into your diet:
bell peppers
citrus fruits
Dark green leafy
tomatoes
milk
Benefits of Recommended Foods
 Bell peppers- They are low in calories and exceptionally rich in
vitamin C and other antioxidants, making them an excellent
addition to a healthy diet.
 Citrus Fruits - They're Rich in Vitamins and Plant Compounds
 They're a Good Source of Fiber
 Citrus Fruits Are Low in Calories
 They May Reduce Your Risk of Kidney Stones
 They May Help Fight or Protect Against Cancer. ...
 They Contain Nutrients That Boost Heart Health.
 Dark Leafy Green - They also contain high levels of fiber, iron,
magnesium, potassium and calcium. Furthermore, greens have very
little carbohydrates, sodium and cholesterol. The dark greens
supply a significant amount of folate, a B vitamin that promotes
heart health and helps prevent certain birth defects.
 Tomatoes- Tomatoes are the major dietary source of
the antioxidant lycopene, which has been linked to many health
benefits, including reduced risk of heart disease and cancer. They
are also a great source of vitamin C, potassium, folate, and vitamin
K.

 Milk- Builds healthy bones and teeth; maintains bone mass

Serves as a source of energy; builds/repairs muscle tissue
Helps maintain a healthy blood pressure
Helps strengthen bones and generate energy
 Maintains healthy red blood cells and nerve tissue
  Converts food into energy
 Metabolizes sugars and fatty acids
FOODS NOT TO EAT/ RESTRICTED
FOOD
Fried foods.
Highly processed foods (doughnuts, pie,
cookies)
Whole-milk dairy products (cheese, ice
cream, butter)
Fatty red meat.

GORD DISEASE
is a common condition, where
acid from the stomach leaks
up into the oesophagus
(gullet). It usually occurs as a
result of the ring of muscle at
the bottom of the oesophagus
becoming weakened.
Symptoms of GORD can include:

heartburn (an uncomfortable burning

sensation in the chest that often occurs after
eating)
acid reflux (where stomach acid comes back up
into your mouth and causes an unpleasant, sour
taste)
oesophagitis (a sore, inflamed oesophagus)
bad breath.
bloating and belching.
feeling or being sick.
Causing Factors
is usually caused by the ring of muscle at the
bottom of the oesophagus (gullet) becoming
weakened.
Normally, this ring of muscle opens to let food
into your stomach and closes to stop stomach
acid leaking back up into your oesophagus.
But for people with GORD, stomach acid is
able to pass back up into the oesophagus. This
causes symptoms of Gord, which can include
heartburn and acid reflux.
Recommended Foods
 Vegetables
 Ginger
Oatmeal
Noncitrus fruits
Lean meats and seafood
Egg whites
Healthy fats
Benefits of recommended foods
 Vegetables- are naturally low in fat and sugar, and they help
reduce stomach acid. Good options include green beans, broccoli,
asparagus, cauliflower, leafy greens, potatoes, and cucumbers.

 Ginger - Ginger has natural anti-inflammatory properties, and it’s a

natural treatment for heartburn and other gastrointestinal problems.
You can add grated or sliced ginger root to recipes or smoothies or
drink ginger tea to ease symptoms.

Oatmeal-is a breakfast favorite, a whole grain, and an

excellent source of fiber. A diet high in fiber has been
linked with a lower risk of acid reflux. Other fiber
options include whole-grain breads and whole-grain rice.
 Noncitrus fruits-including melons, bananas, apples, and pears, are
less likely to trigger reflux symptoms than acidic fruits.
Lean meats and seafood- Lean meats, such as chicken, turkey, fish,
and seafood, are low-fat and reduce symptoms of acid reflux. Try
them grilled, broiled, baked, or poached.

Egg whites- Egg whites are a good option. Stay away from egg
yolks, though, which are high in fat and may trigger reflux
symptoms.

Healthy fats- Sources of healthy fats include avocados, walnuts,

flaxseed, olive oil, sesame oil, and sunflower oil. Reduce your
intake of saturated fats and trans fats and replace them with these
healthier unsaturated fats.
FOODS NOT TO EAT
coffee.
alcohol.
fatty or spicy foods and pepper.
drinks containing caffeine.
soft drinks.
citrus fruit juices.
chocolate.
