TECHNOLOGY THAT ARE VIABLE
• Ozonation
• Chlorination
• Fentons
• Electro Coagulation
CHLORINATION
• Chlorination for removal of COD can be by Gas
Chlorine, Sodium Hypo Chlorite, Calcium Hypo
Chlorite solution
• Chlorination is always done after secondary
clarifier and followed by ACF for removal of
chlorine
How Chlorination Works
• Calcium Hypo Chlorite
• Ca(OCL)2 +2H2O HOCL +Ca(OH)2
• Sodium Hypo Chlorite
• NaOCL+ H2O HOCL + NaOH
• CL2 Gas
• CL2 +H2O HOCL + CL- + H +
• HOCL OCL- + H +
• OCL- -> CL - + O

OZONATION
• Ozonation is also polishing operation after
clarification or filter
• Post Ozonation UV is used to destroy the
excess Ozone in water
• UV is used in removal of excess ozone
Ozonation Reactions
• O3 + OH- O2- + HO2*
• O3 + O2* O3*- + O2
• O3*- HO3*-
• HO3* OH* +O2
• * indicates radicals, this react indirectly and have
reaction rates constant higher than O3 itself

FENTONS REACTION
• Fentons is also used as polishing operation
• It uses H2O2 as oxidizer and Ferric salt as
catalyst
• Its produces sludge that needs clarification
depending upon load

ELECTRO COAGULATION
• It is used as pre treatment operation
preferably before DAF
• Flocs from electro coagulation unit float due
to H2 gas produced as cathode
• It uses direct current
