Ballad poem: We've been through Hell together

“Angels & Outlaws” Feeling the pleasure and the pain

By: Vince Suzadail Jr. Stood side by side against the
world In the sunshine and the rain
“Come and sit here by the fire
Outlaws live their lives on the edge
Watch the flickering firelight.
Their castles built with sand
Let me touch your lips with mine
Why angels fall in love with them
Will you keep me warm tonight
It's hard to understand

I've been here reminiscing So while we're sitting by this fire

Just feeling kind of sad And thinking of all the times you
Wondering why angels love cried
outlaws This outlaw loves his angel
And all the times we had I want you forever by my side.”
TOAST ANNOTATION
The title “Angels & Outlaws” may tell a story of love between an angel and an outlaw. After
reading, you learn that it is a poem about an outlaw sitting by a fire reminiscing the question,
“why do angels love outlaws?”I’m other words he is thinking about a girl that he has fallen in
love with and does not understand how she could fall for him due to his life style and
appearance. He is also reminiscing about their past and all the moments they had together.
There is one shift in the poem which occurs at the beginning of the 5th stanza when the
author says, “so while we are sitting here” which switches the poem from remembering his
past to talking about the present. The author creates a contemplative and appreciative tone in
his story by using details including “wondering, thinking of, and reminiscing. He also uses
words like loves, side by side, forever, warm, and angels when talking about the love of his life.
The author also creates a romantic mood for the reader by creating imagery from words like
(pleasure, warm, love, forever by my side, and sunshine.) These details create a theme, love is
complicated and hard to understand yet it is beautiful and pleasing.
SHORT SUMMARY of “ANGELS &
OUTLAWS”
The poem Angels and Outlaws begins with an outlaw sitting by a fire asking a
woman to come over and kiss him. He then describes to her that he has been
reminiscing about their long journey through thick and thin and the love they have
created together. Yet he doesn’t understand why a woman like her would want to
be with an “outlaw” like him. Although he ponders this question and doesn’t
understand, he is very appreciative of her company and wants to be with her
forever.
